William & Mary 2024 RD

Rejected. 33 ACT, 34 superscore 3.9 UW GPA. OOS, from NY. 2 varsity sports, lots of EC, did think it was a reach.

Can anyone OOS for W&M advise if they’ve received any grant/scholarship money or paying sticker price?

OOS daughter accepted.
4.0 unweighted GPA, 11 AP, lots of honors
1490 SAT
lots of ec’s and leadership
Was hoping for a scholarship but didn’t get anything. It is too expensive without merit aid.

DD accepted. OOS, 3.9 GPA, 31 ACT, AP and honors. Lots of leadership and significant ECs. No interview. I am actually a bit shocked she got in. Her sister was waitlisted 2 years ago with the same stats and an interview.

OOS (Massachusetts) Accepted!
33 ACT, 3.9 GPA UW, 6 APs and everything else honors.
Lots of Leadership and lots of ECs, mostly in music/theater.
Really excited, though waiting on financial aid before making a decision.

DS accepted!!! Instate - international relations/history
35 ACT, 4.08 GPA w/ 4 AP and 2 DE.

Eagle Scout w/ leadership roles, marching band and fencing. He did an interview over the summer. We’re all thrilled and were on pins and needles waiting for this decision. This is one of his top 2 choices and he’s had a few surprising rejections.

Accepted: UCSD, GWU, W&M
Rejected: UVA, ND, JHU, Columbia

Just a comment to all of you with “surprising rejections” – High-stats kids have it tough. They are told “you could get in anywhere,” and it’s true, they could, but they won’t, simply because of supply and demand.

They do everything right all through high school, and then college admissions seem like a bloodbath. They are competing for a much smaller number of colleges than lower-stats students are. It is awful for them.

The good news is that there are far more elite-quality colleges than the top ten of USN&WR. William and Mary is one of these. Its students tend to feel they wouldn’t have been half this happy, anywhere else.

Best wishes for your decision-making, everybody!

Congrats to all who have been accepted!
I’m hoping to attend but money is going to play a big factor for my family. Has anyone received their financial aid packages yet?

Yes, received a letter summarizing financial aid offer.

@Colngu Where did you find this information? Online or in the mail?

@KsWizz26 letter via snail mail about a week ago, assume they do these on a rolling basis and recent events might slow things down for everyone…

@Colngu Ok cool. I received something in the mail today but it was just an acceptance letter with no FA attached, so another letter is on the way I assume. Are you in-state or out of state?

So I have a dilemma. I really like W+M’s campus, its faculty, and its academic reputation. The problem is that I got a really good offer from GWU, practically paying nothing, with a connection that works in the administration who said that IF I went to GWU, I could choose whatever dorm I wanted and would immediately have either a job or good internship in DC. However, I really don’t like the city environment of GWU and W+M is ranked higher so I’d assume its better academically. I also really like W&M’s campus a lot when I visited. Still waiting from W+M on fin aid. Its kind of like my brain is telling me to go to GWU but my heart is telling me to go to W&M. Please help lol.

An urban campus is very different from a traditional campus. Talk/chat with current GWU students as much as you can to get a feel for student life there. I have a friend who graduated from GWU and absolutely loved the urban campus, but I couldn’t even imagine what that would be like.

When you compare costs, be sure to include total cost of attendance. W&M guarantees no tuition increase over your 4 years. Does GWU?

One more thing to check is AP credits. W&M is quite generous. In fact, my daughter is a “social” sophomore but an “academic” senior because she has so many AP credits. One of her friends is expecting to graduate in 3 years because of that. On the other hand, it’s possible that 2020 AP exams may not be given the same status? Might be something to ask about.

Finally, DC is easier to get to from around the country. Williamsburg does have a train station within walking distance of campus though. Do a fake trial run of scheduling an itinerary, to get an idea of time and costs.

Good luck making your decision. You have great choices.

tysm for the advice!

Is it worth it to pay OOS price for W&M?
