Williams College [$1.8k parent contribution] vs Georgia Tech [$6.9k] CS (two days to decide)

@Tigerle Williams does not include loans in their financial aid packages. Or Work Study.

Because Williams has one of the most generous financial aid programs in the country, you can afford to make the right choice for your education without taking on a big financial burden. Williams meets 100 percent of demonstrated need, with NO loans or work-study expectation

If I really could upload financial letters for you guys to read everything def would make more sense

When you hit the little blue reply button you will get this dialogue box. At the top there is a little picture…of a picture (small rectangle that has a mountain in it). If you click on that, you should be able to upload pictures from your photo library…but PLEASE…take out all personally identifiable information.

I am most likely stating the obvious, as you should also consider the cost of getting to/from Williams multiple times a year, shipping and storing your items and the upgrade for a winter wardrobe as you think about cost. 2 very different schools - good luck and congrats.

You uploaded the same award twice!

This is for tech

yeah my bad, I wanted to screenshot more of it

His offer includes $500 first year bonus (could be used for some winter clothes), airline tickets, and summer storage.

Yeah, my daughter’s in college in Maine, and she never really needed a heavy coat this winter. But even when I lived in the Northeast decades ago, it wasn’t freezing constantly from November-March. There were fluctuations, freezes, thaws, etc.

OP, one thing that still holds true (I think) is that in inland places like western Mass, you’re more likely to get the snowy side of the snowstorms, as opposed the the icy side that the coast gets. It’ll be prettier. FWIW, between the two, I would leap at the chance to go to Williams for almost nothing. But you have to think about what would be best for you.

based on the financial offers what do yall think about both deals?

They’re both great.

It’s a question of - is one affordable and one not?

If both are affordable, you are back to which is right for you.

We can all point out the differences - rural vs. city, LAC/small vs. large, ACC sports vs. D3 sports, weather, breadth of courses (and you’re going to write at both schools, sorry) - but in the end, assuming both are affordable, only you can decide - not us.

When we decide, it’s what’s best given our opinion - but we aren’t you.

So if both are affordable, you’re going to have to make a decision.

You’re clearly talented enough to do so - given you got into two of the top colleges in the country.

Best of luck.

Can your family afford their net costs (without them taking out loans) at either college?

$1800 a year to attend Williams is an excellent offer. It also includes things like books and other incidental expenses…which the GA Tech offer doesn’t include.

But would you prefer to be closer to your family? For some students, that is a plus.

williams is more affordable objectively

@monkeeman_2 I know you are trying to do this…but if both schools are affordable for your family…you need to dig deeper within yourself to figure out where you want to spend four years.

I don’t remember if you said…but have you visited Williams? What were your thoughts?

i see that now - as he was uploading as I replied  I just see how many kids on financial aid have issues once they get to college to pay for the extras and I rarely see it mentioned here. Both my kids go to schools with very high endowments and need blind - yet every year we get requests from student run groups to donate money for winter coats, storage, additional food money etc for these students. So hard - as a big percent of kids are not on a tight budget and hard for others to participate - imo.
