Williams College Class of 2028 Official Thread

I have a current Eph. All NESCAC schools prioritize education over sports so your daughter and all the kids who play varsity sports receive a lot of support. They just have to be organized. Athletics are totally compatible with all majors.

I am wondering if anyone has successfully appealed their financial aid letter from Williams based on receiving a stronger package from other needs-based schools? I’ve looked at the Williams financial appeal document, and it asks about changes in income and circumstances. In my child’s case, there really haven’t been any changes, but Williams is asking for about 5K more from our family than another similar college.

They will work with you generally if you email them directly and explain the situation, adjustments are made when you send additional information that should be considered, they try to be flexible. Also, they cover soft costs that are generally not covered by peer schools.

I got in and I am committed as a 3.7 Test optional student  i am beyond grateful and excited, they gave me a full ride! Definitely not the school 9th grade me would have expected to commit to, but I honestly cannot imagine another school that’s a better fit for me.

Congrats! Amazing accomplishment that your 9th grade self would be proud of nonetheless.

I think my personal statement was the highlight of my application. A very charged, emotional essay about the time the TV channel I volunteer at got raided by the Venezuelan police, and the steps I took as part of a team to eventually get the Organization of American States and other organizations to condemn the attack, leading to the TV channel still flourishing and publishing independent news. I think this story was really unique and one of a kind, and shows a lot of impact.

Thank you for posting and congrats on a very impressive record to date! Harvard just announced they are going to require testing next year and Williams has a committee studying the issue. Would you have applied to Williams even it testing were required?

Hi, thank you!

Yes I’ve been seeing the recent pushback towards test optional policies, it was all really sudden and unexpected, especially Harvard’s decision since they had said the opposite a few months ago. One of my biggest regrets with this process was that I did not study hard enough for the SAT. I have a below average GPA, and. high enough SAT would have definitely helped me. I think if Williams became test required during my application year, I still would have definitely applied, low SAT or not. I think it’s different for me though since the average SAT score in my school is 920-980, so a 1400 is amazing in the context of my school. Test required would have definitely motivated me to get a higher SAT score though, I hate to admit it but I did slack off with that test because of test optional policies.

Thank you so much for sharing, it seems testing can help distinguish accomplished applicants like yourself with diverse backgrounds, which is consistent with the studies Harvard and Yale have pointed to.

Just saw this on College Simply, it says 577 students accepted offers of admissions at Williams this year, which would be one of the largest classes ever and explain the need for overflow housing as mentioned in the Record article.

ā€œIn the most recent statistical year 15,321 prospective students applied, and 1,302 were granted admissions, Of those admitted 577 enrolled in the school.ā€

Those data are for class of 2026. Two cycles ago.

Here is the info for Class of 2028 (note they don’t yet know how many first year students will be enrolling for the fall): College admits 7.5 percent of record-high 15,411 applicants to Class of 2028 – The Williams Record

Yes, I believe that was the year they went no loans and really threw their expected yield for a loop. I believe that is why they did not offer that many admissions this year.

Thank you, now see that the numbers were dated, given this is another record year, will be interesting to see the number of offers that are accepted, sounds like previews went very well and with all of the great on campus programming, yield may exceed prior records, for those that accept, let us know your thoughts!

Several posts on reddit of people getting in off the waiting list. Anyone here get in?

Not yet. Just got an email from Williams though saying that they will start reviewing waitlists soon and suggested me to add new updates to my application.

Fingers and toes crossed for you!

Dear Emmanuel,

Thank you for your patience and continued interest in Williams over the last several weeks.

We hope to have the opportunity to admit students from the waiting list after our May 15 enrollment deadline passes. If you remain interested in being considered for admission to Williams, please complete [this brief form]

If you are no longer interested in Williams and would like to remove your name from our waiting list, [please let us know]

All best,

Sulgi Lim
Director of Admission
Williams College

I just got this email from Williams college regarding my waitlist. Are these emails usually sent to everyone or just people they are considering admitting? I know Cornell seems to send these continued interest emails to applicants they intend on likely admitting, so I’m just wondering whether this letter suggest that?

It says complete the ā€œbrief formā€ but I don’t know if they are suggesting I write another letter of interest since I already submitted a pretty beefy one a few weeks ago.

ā€œWe encourage all students on the active waiting list to communicate with the Admission Committee using this form. Doing so will ensure that we have the most up-to-date communication from you in your application. Please note that information shared via email will not be added to application files.ā€œ

This is what the form says btw. Are they suggesting I write another essay? Or just write a brief statement saying I’d 100% commit if admitted?
