Hi, for someone who wishes to major in a fundamental science (e.g. Chem, Bio, Physics), which would be better, Williams College ED or Stanford University SCEA?
Major-wise and admission-statistics-wise. I read somewhere that ED and RD for Williams is about 18% and 40% respectively (don’t know if this is accurate or not) while Stanford SCEA is 18% and RD 11%.

My stats:
SAT: 2330
SAT II: Math IIC: 800, aiming for full scores on other two subject tests
GPA: unweighted, around 3.9
School: private international, rigorous IB courseload
Steady extracurriculars, nothing spectacular, leadership positions in two and lots of community service.

And could someone please chance me for
MIT
Princeton
Duke
UPenn

Thanks in advance =)

bump bump bump
anyone, please? )=

ED Williams would be more likely than Stanford SCEA, I think you should apply there.

MIT: Reach, for everyone
Princeton: Reach, for everyone
Duke: Slight Reach
UPenn: Slight Reach
You could pull of Penn/Duke, skeptical about MIT/Princeton. Plus, you need safety/matches

This educational environments are very different. I don’t think ease of admission should be your criterion.

My S attends Williams and loves it. He would choose it over any school in the US. If you can’t say the same, perhaps it’s better to not apply ED.

Williams is rural, isolated and a very tight-knit campus culture. Stanford is not. For my S, it is perfect, and many students love it. Those who choose it just for ratings or something like that may not fare as well. Williams is very much about the fit in their admissions decisions as well.

And there are many schools somewhat in between.

Good luck.

Thanks, simpleperson and mythmon =] Your replies truly helped.
I’m not worried about getting into my match and safety schools, but I do need to narrow down my reach list.
How unlikely would Stanford SCEA be?
I like the tight-knit campus culture Williams has, but I’m a little hesistant that it might be too small for my liking.

Then I really suggest you visit with students and stay in a freshman entry.

Why have you narrowed it down to these two schools?
