Could you sew a couple of panels of too narrow curtains together for a wider panel?
I can definitely sew… the issue then will be finding panels with patterns perfectly aligned vertically and dealing with grommets and lining… it might get pricy.
I had a problem of a very wide window and the drapes I liked were too narrow. I went to JCP and the salesperson explained how you can overlap 2 panels together, that is you can put the 2nd panel’s first grommet in front of the 1st panel’s last grommet and thread the rod that way so the 2 panels will connect together. If you are worried about gaps between panels, you can put the the 2nd panel’s first grommet in front of the last 2 grommets of the first panel.
We also bought the same identical leaf pattern drapes you posted, in the khaki color. The colors online are not true colors and we were glad we saw them in person.
@cbreeze - great tip about the grommet overlap! It should work. What would you say about the JCPenney drapes? Does that khaki color look more green or brown than shown? Do you like what you bought?
We put this in our vacation home and yes we really like it and they are good quality, quite solid. The khaki drapes are more taupe (brown) than what’s shown online.
Thanks!! Very helpful.
Be aware that all “room darkening” drapes do not block all light. If there is a Kohls near you check out theirs- I was at one a distance from my house here (Herb Kohl started his company in my home state and they are everywhere there) and wished I had seen them beforehand. Some are more blocking than others- hold a hand behind one and look at the lighting.
You may end up with layers- room darkening honeycomb shades hung from the ceiling and drapes for fashion. I used honeycomb shades on two sliders for night time privacy, pull them up every morning- did one per slider panel. The ones from Penneys are not going to block light that well- they were selling that pattern a few years ago (I got a different leaf pattern I liked better that is no longer available). I got four panels for the living room sliders (face the lanai)- probably could fasten two panels together on each side but haven’t bothered (slider has three panels altogether and I have three regular honeycomb shades, nearly room width). In our old house room darkening honeycomb shades did a good job in bedrooms, added curtains for fashion/color…
Read the page two posts after posting. I did not bother with the overlap but it is a great idea. How evenly the folds are when closed depends on who does it (we don’t always close the drapes, just the shades)- H or myself. Guess who does the more even look?
Knowing my Mr., he will not fuss with multiple layers.
I do not want to have the window closing duty, lol. My plan is to get drapes 1.5x the window width, so when closed, they will block more light. We really don’t need blackout drapes - the slider faces west, and there are no houses or streets directly below us. Currently, we sleep without any drapes. I am leaning towards the JCP leaves, but will check what Kohls has, too. If the JCP ones will let too much light in, I will add a lining. That is if I like them.
Thank you all for the helpful suggestions and tips!
Wow, JCP was fast! I ordered the leaves in khaki on Wed night, and today they have been delivered! I like them even though the leaves are more prominent than I thought they would be. The drapes are nicely lined, so they will block enough light for our purposes. The color is not what I would call khaki but more like taupe, and the leaves match the color of my carpets (Costco’s Waikiki Sand, lol!). I am sure Mr. will have a fit - too neutral for his tastes, but drapery is not where one needs to go wild when decorating. It will give me excuse to get a few accent pieces.
Ordering some silk blend drapes for the guest suite from Country Curtains!
Thank you all!
Excellent!
An update. Re-ordered the leafs in cream to match the paint on the walls (sort of).
