Window treatments!

We just had a great thread about duvets, and so many wonderful sources have been recommended. I need help with finding a source for nice blackout drapes! I have a patio slider (needs min two 100" panels) and two smallish windows (probably 2 40+ inch panels each) in MB that need said drapes. The ones I ordered from Amazon turned out to be duds for my purposes. I do not want to spend a fortune on custom made drapes and wait for them forever! Anyone willing to share their sources? Much appreciated!

I have to see drapes, etc., before ordering. I’d check the local Pottery Barn and wait for. A sale.

I don’t know if it would work for you, but I replaced all my old skinny with new shades with 2" fake wood looking ones. When shut, they block out all light. For not much more than Home Depot, I used a man from my office building. He came and measured all the windows, and then did the installations. I would have hired a handyman to install, so cost was probably less than HD, with better quality.

I am about to order some solar shades from Smith + Noble for a couple of 96" windows. Yikes on the prices, but if you put things in your basket and don’t buy them yet you get some good sale offers. Also they sent my free swatches, so I had those taped up in the window until I decided on a color.

I used the Eclipse Symphony blackout drapes in Neutral for two rooms of my house. They don’t look like blackout drapes and the beautiful color is a perfect match for Benjamin Moore “Revere Pewter” paint. They definitely look like they cost more than they did. I ordered them from Walmart in the 96" since they mostly had 84" in store, but they are available at elsewhere. Check out the Eclipsecurtains.com website to see types available and a retailer list.

I’m not sure they come that long or if you are willing to work with a shop to modify for a semi custom price break.

S+N does have some things I like! Thanks!!!

BB, maybe it would help if you describe your taste? If I am remembering correctly you like a more modern, sleek look? Not a wild print or country print?? (correct me if I’m wrong!)

Yes, you got that right, abasket! A solid color and not too shiny will be good. 84" long panels will do.

100" wide is a must requirement as the slider is 10 feet long… I need 2 of those drapes for it. That is the biggest problem as most drapes are much narrower.

Try the Eclipse ones. I like a sleek transitional look and they added the more modern piece with my dark floors.

Thanks! Let me see if they come that wide… can’t have 4 panels on that slider because that would mean too much fuss closing them every night.

Country Curtains has some nice very plain curtains. I would check their website. You don’t have to get a country print. We had a cream color tab curtain with a lining on our old patio doors. They lasted well…and after we used them for 7 years or so…and moved…we gave them to a friend for her patio door.

@thumper1 - two thumbs up! That site has slider panels and matching curtains. Thanks!

JCPenney has a good selection of curtains and there is always a sale or coupon on the website. I have noticed especially that there is an internet sale on Sunday evenings. I like to “touch” things before I buy them and like that I can usually see them at the store and then order the size and color I need online. Here’s just one of the blackout patio door offerings: http://www.jcpenney.com/p/sun-zero-emory-room-darkening-grommet-top-patio-panel/pp5005330467?pTmplType=regular&searchTerm=patio%20door%20curtains&catId=SearchResults&searchType=Predictive%20Search|Products|1&predictiveDetail=product:patio%20door%20curtains:1:pp5005330467

Calico Corners might be worth a peek. Both Calico Corners and Country Curtains have more updated looks than they did in the past.

Love Country Curtains! They’re expensive but everything from there lasts and lasts (in fact I heard that my ex & second wife are still using all the CC items I bought 25 years ago!!)

I am seriously considering these drapes:

The reviews are very positive.

T.J.Maxx and Marshalls have tons of drapes at reasonable prices.

I like those Penney’s drapes. The leaf pattern is subtle, but still provides some interest. I have ordered from Country Curtains (mostly sheers and shades with pull cords) and their stuff all lasted well.

I like the JCP ones too. And I overall don’t like drapes!!!

TJ and Home Goods do have lots of casual drapes - but don’t think they have blackout ones or wide enough ones.

I went through every drape at those two stores… they had some pretty stuff, but alas all are too narrow.

Good to know about the quality! Thanks all!

I had some regular curtains I liked very much and turned them into black out curtains. Joann’s Fabric sold the material and it was straightforward to attach a lining. I’m not quick to jump into a new project, but I really liked these curtains and didn’t want to replace them, but needed that room to be dark.
