Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge Browser Download

I just got a free download of this from Microsoft to replace that awful Windows 8. Seems OK so far aside from the expected different appearance. Anyone experienced with this who can warn me of any surprises I might encounter?

I never had any issues with Windows 8 but I upgraded two Surfaces to 10 just to end the constant reminders & urgings to upgrade. No issues to date, although I don’t use Edge, so I can’t comment on that. The upgrade is a bit of memory hog, mainly (as I understand it) because it maintains a backup in case you want to revert. Once you are sure you are sticking with Windows 10, you can reclaim that memory. Haven’t had any issues with Win 10 with the exception of some bugs one would expect as a beta tester.

The few times I’ve used Microsoft Edge it was extremely fast. However, there were also times it inexplicably froze or otherwise took an excessively long time to start up compared with firefox…and firefox is not exactly a speedy browser…

I have liked it so far except the little search window in the bottom left hand corner doesn’t work for me. Which I find frustrating. It is a bug, and if I go into Task Manager there are some functions that if shut down enable the search. But it never stays working permanently. But beats Windows 8 by a mile!!!

Microsoft Edge is fine. But I ran into one bad experience: clicking on Start button will bring up a dialog asking you to logout and that dialog will stay on the desktop forever. You cannot open any application on the Start menu anymore, although you can click on other application icons on the desktop to open them. This happens when you interrupt Windows update (?). It took me 30 minutes to google and fix it.

Thanks folks! Several websites I frequent have redesigned their sites and they didn’t work right anymore. A couple had a message that I was using an outdated browser (IE 10) and needed to upgrade. When I went to Microsoft.com to get IE 11 I was offered a free download of Windows 10 and MS Edge.

I just switched back to Windows 7 from 10 after about 2 weeks. Just a casual at home user. Disliked too many inconveniences for my usage. Luddite? Dislike too many icons when a short word does the trick. Did not like edge or pushiness of some programs (eliminated xbox as well). After a few days my IE11 (H and son have already told me to use other browsers but I like my left side favorites list) wouldn’t allow me to send files/pages. Dislike having to figure out icons and do more steps than I had to in Win 7 for tasks. Liked being able to click on print preview. So many “silly little things”. And- Win 10 wouldn’t do any updates until after the month I can change back.

I still have months to return to Windows 10. Anyone care to offer me good reasons to do so?

I absolutely refuse to download Windows 10. My husband did it and I really dislike the way it looks and interfaces with the user.

H reverted to Windows 8.1 on his desktop- he has a touch screen and disliked needing to choose between tablet and touch. He did switch our Dell laptop to 10 and added memory when it needed more (the number of times we switched in/out hard drive/ssd in the process- but final hardware decisions done). He has various OS on his smaller toys. I think I’ll wait until I replace my 5 year old Dell desktop- unless I change my mind in 6 months…

Wonder if generations react differently? Seems they are trying a “one size fits all” approach so smart phone users have an easier time. They are working within the limitations of the very small screen by using cutsie icons when words work. Things fit into that box and require extra steps. It would be different if I had a touch screen.

Tried to ask CS developer son when he visited us for Thanksgiving. He used to be pure Windows diehard user at home, then got a MAC and since has abandoned Windows. Had hoped to ask him questions about various things but he said he is no longer familiar with options I was curious about.

I tried Windows 10 and reverted to Windows 7. I dread getting a new computer and having no choice. It ran slow as molasses. And it really ticked me off that they took away solitaire. =((

I had Windows 8 before my download so Windows 10 is an improvement. No way that I would revert to Windows 8. I miss Windows 7 on my old deceased computer LOL!
