has anyone that got denied participated in the WOW phone call program? what is it all about?
@pandaboy123 I just talked with an admissions rep about Williams itself (location, programs, research, etc.)
@Astraea1 @pandaboy123 what are you guys talking about? What’s the phone call program?
@collegebouuund When I got the WoW rejection email they offered me a phone call with an admissions officer
I applied for the second round, but now I think my family probably makes too much money…
Has anybody heard back?
@Astraea1 when did they call you?
I have a feeling that results will come out in the next few days
The decisions will be out today!
Around what time are they usually sent out??
@Makeroomforus do u have any idea?^
I just emailed them; waiting anxiously.
I got in, I am very very excited!
Congratulations to @Williamsplease and everyone else who is accepted!
Best wishes to everyone else and good luck in your continued search for colleges. Remember, too, that some people who are not accepted to WOW still get into Williams College during the regular admissions cycle (ED and RD).
Rejected, but not surprised by the decision
Congrats to everybody who got in!
Rejected:
" I’m writing to let you know that, unfortunately, we’re unable to include you among the 2018 WOW Scholars, but I want to be sure you understand why. The WOW program was developed to provide students from low-income backgrounds the opportunity to visit campus. Because the WOW applicant pool includes so many students who come from modest financial circumstances, we prioritize those students when determining how to distribute our funding for the program.
Before you delete this email, I want to be sure you know that this decision is in no way a reflection of how impressed we are by your application. In fact, we think you’re a terrific candidate for the Williams Class of 2023 and very much hope you’ll apply. You should know that each year, we accept many students during Early Decision and Regular Decision whom we were unable to include in the WOW program. "
Congratulations to those who were accepted!
Son was rejected, no offer of a phone call or encouraging rejection like the one posted above. His just said:
"Thank you for your interest in the Windows on Williams (WOW) program. This year’s WOW applicant pool is among the largest and strongest in the program’s history, and unfortunately, we cannot accept all of the talented students who applied. I’m sorry that we’re unable to include you among the 2018 WOW Scholars.
If you have any questions about the college application process, or if I can help in any way, please don’t hesitate to be in touch. I wish you all the best for a wonderful senior year."
Disappointing and pretty discouraging given the much more positive rejection letters some apparently get. We are low income (<$40K), rural, and far from MA, so we definitely can’t afford a visit. He has very high stats, one national-level award (individual), is a finalist for another (unrelated) national-level award, has multiple state-level awards in music, sports, business, and academics, and has done a lot of meaningful service and held several significant leadership positions, in addition to working. His school doesn’t have the advanced math classes (Calc2, Linear Algebra, etc.) or other impressive opportunities I see others on CC have, but his course load is far from easy. He’s mixed-race, but not of an interesting variety (I don’t think it would count as URM, although it is unique in our area). He is not first generation, either, and maybe that makes a difference.
congratulations to anyone who got in! and to anyone who didn’t, remember that this in no way determines your value as an applicant, or heck, even whether or not you’re going to get in to Williams. I was denied, but that’s what I expected as my family is upper middle class and I’m an international student living in the U.S.
". . . This year’s WOW applicant pool was among the largest and strongest in the program’s history, and unfortunately, we cannot accept all of the fantastic students who applied. I’m sorry that we’re unable to include you in the 2018 WOW program.
Before you delete this email, I want to be sure you understand that this decision is not a reflection of your potential to be a strong applicant for the Williams Class of 2023. In fact, we have waived your application fee and the fee for submitting the CSS PROFILE, and very much hope you’ll apply to Williams. Directions on how to take advantage of your application fee waivers are included at the bottom of this email. In addition, I want you to know that if you apply and are admitted to the Williams Class of 2023, you’ll receive close consideration for an all-expenses-paid visit to campus during Williams Previews, our program for admitted students in April.
If you have any questions about the college application process, or if I can help in any way, please don’t hesitate to be in touch. I wish you all the best for a wonderful senior year, and I look forward to reviewing your Williams application this winter."
Seems like a combination of the 2 above rejection letters? I honestly don’t really know what to think of it or where this implies I stand in Williams’ eyes.
Class2023getslit, We got the same letter via email.
Does anyone know the acceptance rate for WOW? I know Discover Swarthmore was 9.1% this year.
Does anyone remember what the essay prompt was for this fly-in??
