Windows on Williams 2018

@asiahz I was also wondering what had been required on the application. My son said that it was just answering a bunch of demographic questions, self-reporting test results, uploading his transcript, and uploading “an English paper of a certain length that had been submitted for a grade during junior year,” or something like that. He said the application didn’t request a resume or any ECs or awards, at least from what he remembers.

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted into WOW! I was accepted today as well, and I’ll most likely be attending the October dates. As to those who have unfortunately been turned away, I can 100% assure that you that decisions were mainly made giving preference to Highly-Qualified URMs WITH financial need. Williams is vastly known for its financial aid, giving URMs the opportunity to feel the inclusiveness of an elite, private liberal arts college before being ultimately chosen for admission. Apply to Williams regardless of your decision! I sincerely hope everyone has a firm grasp on the upcoming college application season!

Accepted!

34 ACT, cumulative GPA 4.5w/3.96uw, AP Tests: three 5s and one 2 (AP CHEM), lots of Dual-Enrollment credits through a local college- most at a collegiate junior level- because my school doesn’t offer many AP classes, hooks: attending national mock trial championship and recruited athlete, income <$80k

We got the same email as RJ2023 with the fee
Waiver and CSS profile waiver. My child is an URM and affiliated with a community organization that works with Williams. Maybe that is the difference between the rejection letters?

They are supposed to come out sometime today!

got a response, I didn’t get in, just a fee waiver

Congratulations to all who applied. Unfortunately, I was rejected but I received the fee waiver and phone call. Might have to do with the fact that I’m Asian from a relatively affluent area. Oh well. Godspeed!

Rejected. RIP

Accepted!

Stats:
GPA: 3.8 UW, 4.0W
ACT: 32
SAT: Didn’t send
Ethnicity: Latino

Accepted! Anyone going to the September program?

I would not read to much in to the variation among the letters, it depends on your admissions rep, they try to personalize the letters to the extent they can. It sounds like they had an overabundance of applicants with significant need this year which made decisions difficult. You should still apply if you really like Williams, if anything, your admissions rep is probably hoping you apply since there is more room during the actual admissions process.

@TennisParent so it’s your regional rep that reads the applications?

I have no idea but I believe they are involved since they are familiar with the high schools in their respective regions in terms of course difficulty, grading systems, etc.

I was accepted! The WoW session I have in mind conflicts with the Washington & Lee fly-in that I was also accepted to, but I ultimately decided to visit Williams over W&L.

I’m excited to meet some new people!

I am a currently Williams freshman, who went to WOW last year. I loved it, and WOW is literally the reason why I came here. If you have any questions let me know, I will try to answer as many as I can, though I am currently busy with move in.

@kassh4
Do you remember if the WOW guides mentioned anything about the acceptance rate into the school? I got in but I’m interested to know if it really helps getting into the college.

My D19 was rejected but received the fee waiver and phone call. The rejection wasn’t as surprise as we have already visited campus. But, the phone call was really insightful! Based on the feedback D19 received, I would think everyone invited to WOW has a high chance of acceptance to Williams. Congratulations, all! =D>
