Wing Meeting for transfers not staying at Jester

I’m not going. They say it’s mandatory but it just says they are going to explain other things about UT Austin and what to expect on Day 2…Um, I already know what to do on Day 2. Get my EIT upgraded & ID, get advised, and register. What’s the point of the wing meeting?

First of all, why not go? It’s not like you’re better than everyone else, and you have something better to do (or am I wrong)?

Secondly, they take attendance at wing meetings, and if you don’t attend all of the meetings, you will have a registration bar (block).

I had a room at Jester, but I had some last second change of plans and didn’t stay there. I did not go to the wing meeting. It’s labeled as mandatory, but my assigned roommate sent me a text saying it wasn’t after he went. I also didn’t have any bars and registered with no problems.

I agree with Soadquake about going. I would have if I didn’t have something else going on.

Soadquake is flat out wrong. At 3 pm on my first day of orientation our dept. advisors told every single one of us that we were done with orientation and were now free to register the next day. The wing meeting and the events that follow are generally for those who haven’t done very much research on their own and/or want to stay to meet people or hang out with friends they already came with.

There is a lot of misinformation on the orientation website and in the brochures. The wing meeting is not necessary. The financial aid counseling the next day can be done in about 15 minutes online. And registration is in the CBA building at 1 pm for those who have done no research on their own or weren’t paying attention at the welcome meeting or their own advising sessions. I registered at the library and could have done so at my house. The only reason I stayed the second day was because I had already checked into my hotel and took the opportunity to go meet a math advisor and ask the bdp program and the cs dept. a couple of questions.

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to make it “sound cool” by not going or whatever. I had to look at apartments while I could have my stepmom down here to check them out with me.

I had already asked someone who went to the last orientation if anything was mandatory and he told me only the college meeting, advising session, and registration. But the wing meeting did sound like a waste of time, but I was just double-checking with people on here. >.<

Inmotion- Thanks, that’s what I was wondering too! I’m not saying these meetings are worthless, but a lot of what they told me it seems I’ve already gotten in emails or such… Although, I did not know how to register until the opening session today.
