Winning best high school documentary

Hi Guys–

As some of you may know, I am part of a competitve film making academy. I recently submitted one of my films to the largest high school, and college contest in america.

Out of 500+entries, I recieved first place for my documentary about feminism. How much will this help, I have a very good chance of winning a student emmy also, because of this accolade.

I live in CA, and am interested in UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, Georgetown, Stanford, USC, Northwestern, NYU, Penn, Tufts (4 part legacy), BU, BC, McGill (Candian Resident) U. Mich and Emory.

What do you guys think… I really want to go to one of these schools.

Anyone? Also, I have studied spanish up to the AP level, while taking chinese also.

Your test scores are weak for some of the schools you are applying to.
Do you plan on applying ED to Tisch?

just do film if youre that good.

I do not want to study film, my abililty to make good documentaries stems from my interviewing abilities, and archival research.

I will not apply to Tisch, but probably to Gallatin.

What SAT’s should i aim for, highest i think I could get is a 2100.

Oh I’m sorry judging by certain schools you are looking at (NYU, UCLA, USC, NW) you can see why one would assume that.

For Stanford you need higher SAT’s. One great documentary can’t save you.

I’m aware that Stanford is my largest reach. However, they have been taking 15% of the students from my academy for the last two years, pretty cool.

What about the other schools, I really like G-town, N-Western, Mich.

I am going to play up my studying 2 languages, volunteering every weekend for special olympisc for 4 years, and being the only high school intern for my represntative on the hill.

I am an idiot when it comes to chancing. Because honestly, what do I know. I have a better SAT than you and better grades with not as amazing e.c’s (because yours rule pretty much, i do film too) and we have some of the same schools. So idk about Gtown because I like it there too.

I think you are a match to lower reach for Michigan though. But 2000+ is going to be needed to help you out for BC, Gtown, Penn, Tufts.

UC’s may be easier for you than me since you’re in-state.

Good luck bro

Thanks for the support. Yea, I pretty much suck at testing, I’ve never finished a math or reading section, but now i get extra time, so i’m expecting probably 50 or more points per section.

I hope that my EC’s round me out… my academy is very well recognized within the academic field, we were recently featured in a premier education magazine, and will hopefully be in TIME soon.

I also helped engineer a film festival showcasing our films to the public, over 400 attended, net profit of over 5K, after around 4K of expenses.
