Winter 2013 Transfer Thread

Does U-M release decision on particular days of each week? Does it release during only mid-night on WA?

@Matisyahu - I already got my fin aid package.

@Dreamingowl - No specific day of the week we are aware of.

A weird quesion, do any of your parents NOT support you transfering? Would any of your parents just hope their kids can “settle down” at current school and do not turn from side to side? I didn’t tell my parents that I applied transfer the second time actually, since I don’t want to make they feel concerned about my study or current school life or whatever. I just hope to show them the “acceptance” letter so that they would have no disagreement to say. My parents are a bit conventional, so the point is the letter from the institution should be positive and persuative enough like UMich.

I thought my parents wouldn’t be as supportive of my decision to transfer because I am historically indecisive, but I changed majors from architecture to history with pre-med. The architecture program at my current school is one of the best in the nation while the history program is outside of the top 100. Because history isn’t exactly a marketable degree, I have to get my history degree at the best institution possible with the knowledge that I may not get into med school. Once my parents knew I was changing majors, they were very supportive. There’s no sense in paying 20k out-of-state tuition to go to a mediocre school.

It was a sudden when my dad called me unusually in late night.
After several minutes’ random chatting, he asked :" Are you applying to school again?"
“What? …Why?”
" Because there are schools sending brochures to your home again saying thanks for applying."
“…No…they are the schols I applied last time and they moved my application to this semester.”
“Don’t think about those again.”
“I don’t want to talk about these things now…” then I changed my topic.

My immediate family is very supportive of the transfer because going to U-M has been my dream for many years. That being said, nobody in my family has gone to U-M. They have all been Spartans and love MSU. They are kinda ****ed that I’m leaving MSU to go to its rival school, but they support my decision because it will make me happy.

@megagemerexe GREAT decision. Both of my parents went to U-M, so I’ve been raised a Michigan man. In fact, they were pretty ****ed when I chose my current school over U-M my senior year of high school. Not a big fan of MSU lol. Your timing is good as well. MSU dominated in football the past 4 years, but I see a change in the winds going forward.

@Dreamingowl That’s too bad. Well, hopefully your parents will be excited when you show them your admission letter to U-M:)

@redsdave03 - Thank you! I’m happy with the decision. The winds are definitely changing in terms of football. The kids at MSU were so ****ed that MSU lost, that a kid who I didn’t even know came into my dorm room and said we should burn something. I said, “Or we don’t burn something. It’s not necessarily a bad thing Michigan won since I’m kinda going there next semester…” He was so angry that he stormed out of my room, and didn’t say anything in response. :P

@redsdave03: Thanks very much! Since I am an international student, I can not choose a school in the middle of nowhere in suburban just because " I like it.", so I might hope to attend a more reputable institution like U-M if in a long run I would go back to my country. I know U-M is great, but I --and my parents–might be not familiar enough about how Great U-M really is. My parents actually don’t care about the fame or name of the school which I attend, but it might because last semester after being rejected by my favorite colleges but also turned down UNC, I collapsed and kept crying a few weeks which scaried them. But definitely this time I am more mature to handle these.

I feel like I’m having a change of heart. Sports Management at Kinesiology is really appealing right now.

Anyone hear about the dates for orientation yet?

Guys I just got my transfer credit report. Potential 55 credits - what does this mean?

@Matisyahu Provided you do decently in your current classes, you will have 55 credits at U of M.

@romaOnCC Oh man. How many are you expecting?

@Matisyahu: You still have your current semester’s courses waiting to transfer right? So that would be 55+ credits transferred I assume.

Whattt I still have not received my credit report. :(

@Dreamingowl no it is 55 including my Fall 2012 semester. They took out a class and a lab. It is cool. I will try to get a class back but if not it is still cool.

@albo23 you will receive it soon. Have you got any news on your financial aid?

Yup, I already received my financial aid report a week ago.

Do U-M release decisions any arbitrary time during a day?

@Matisyahu 59 xD
