Winter 2013 Transfer Thread

Has anyone received something that allows them to sign up for orientation and housing yet?
If not, when should we expect one?

I have a final exam on the 12th but I’m just having it rescheduled. I don’t want to risk losing out on any classes.

We should expect orientation and housing info mid-November. Someone should make a Facebook page.

Hey everyone! New poster and a newly accepted Wolverine as well! I’ve been following the journeys of the posters on this thread since the beginning of August and didn’t plan on creating an account, but after I received my acceptance this morning, I felt compelled to share my experience with you guys!

My high school transcripts/test scores were pitiful and I’m too ashamed to post them on here so lets just say that I had a 0% chance of getting into Michigan directly out of high school. However, after my graduation ceremony, I started to think about all the people going to great universities and I felt like I truly let myself down. I was always smart, but never applied myself because I was too wrapped up in sports and friends. Before I started my first semester at Washtenaw Community College, I told myself that I would do whatever it takes to get the level of grades necessary to get into Michigan. Two years later, I have a 3.9 gpa and I’m going to Michigan in the winter of 2013.

My advice to everyone still waiting on a decision is to be as patient as possible. Just go through the next week without checking WA and just check your email twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening like you normally would without expecting anything from Michigan. Try your hardest not to think about Michigan throughout the day and just pretend that you aren’t going to get in and that you have to do everything it takes to get excellent grades this semester to help your chances when you re-apply to Michigan for the Fall of 2013 semester. I’m sure you will all get accepted considering the credentials that you shared with us, but you have to prepare yourself for the worst just in case things don’t work out!

Good luck to everyone and Go Blue!

@WolverineZX: Congratulations and thanks very much for the advice!!! Could I know how long you have been waiting for the decision?

@WolverineZX Great post. Great advice, and above all CONGRATULATIONS!!! I will sincerely try to avoid checking WA, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to lol. It will be a good test of my self-control.

I would try to focus on exams and paper dues rather than checking WA. It’s hard, really hard, the closer the harder I feel.

All of my materials were received and processed on the 2nd of October according to WA. I have 52 credits so I wasn’t over the 60 hump when I sent my application in like most, but my gpa was strong enough to display my ability to succeed as a college student. I think you have an excellent chance of getting accepted though from what you posted!

@Dreamingowl I know being patient is difficult, so what I did was just refrained from checking WA and even my email account a couple days here and there and instead I would only check my college email account in order to stay on top of my classes. I know it’s easier said than done, but it helped me refrain from distracting myself when I felt overwhelmed with school work and my mind wanted to procrastinate by checking WA or my email or even surfing through this thread lol!

@redsdave03 thanks for the kind words! I appreciate it, and I hope you have the same outcome with your application!

@Wolverine ZX: Thanks very much for your best wishes and advices. I have lots of paper dues and exams to prepare in these two weeks. Sometimes I feel hard and especially humble in front of things out of my control, while the only thing I can do is to wait. I really should have known my result now as I thought my application was complete in late September, it’s just my summer school transcript delay my completance to Oct.12th, which drove me mad.

@albo23 my financial aid was completed on Monday. When should I expect a package?

If everything was completed, probably tomorrow or early next week. But check and make sure they are not requesting any other documents.

Does U-M release result at mid-night?

@Dreamingowl That is when I got mine.

Hey guys, do you think we could talk to a counselor about classes BEFORE we meet them at Orientation?

Negative. They are not assigned until orientation.

i have a feeling our time table is gonna be pretty bad lol. 8am classes and 6pm classes

@ablo23 we can’t call an advisor?

@d4wnzz ayeeeeeeee wassup.
