Winter 2013 Transfer Thread

Do anyone know the campus size comparison among U-M, Case Western, UVA ?

any body applied to college of engineering heard anything??

I just received my housing application. It was quick to fill out.

@albo23 Do they have guaranteed housing availability and do they guarantee you a roommate if you want one?

@albo23 - I did as well. Quick question: I didn’t understand the question about disability, mental illness, etc. Was that saying that if you are placed with someone who has one of those things that you want to be contacted?

@redsdave03 - They don’t really tell you either of those things. Basically, you pick what you would like to have, but it’s kinda broad. I picked that I wanted a roommate, that north neighborhood was my second choice (you only could say if it was your first or second), and that I wanted to live in a co-ed hall.

I kind of forgot, but I think it was asking if you had a disability, mental illness, etc. But I’m sure someone else will chime in.

I just called them, and U-M told me what was meant by it. They said, if you selected yes, then you want to be notified ahead of time if you are placed with someone with a mental illness, disability, etc.

any body applied to college of engineering heard anything??

@hongji711 I heard from someone earlier on this thread that the college of engineering is really backed up on transfer applications right now.

What do you guys think? UIUC or U-M? I know this is a Michigan board, but I trust that you guys have good sense, seeing as you got in to U-M:) I would have already turned in my enrollment deposit to U-M if there weren’t two big factors holding me back: money and not knowing anyone. U-M is $25,000 more expensive than UIUC for me and three of my best friends go to UIUC. I just don’t know if it’s worth paying so much more money to attend a school with a slightly better reputation. Especially considering I would like to attend med school, I don’t know if it’s a wise monetary decision. I’m also kind of shy, so I’m a little worried about meeting people. On the other hand, I feel like I wouldn’t branch out and try to meet new people if I went to UIUC. I’d probably end up hanging out with my best friends quite a bit. Ah, I’m so nervous. Can’t make a decision…

thank you, appreciate your reply

I just realized UMich is so big which among most public universities its size is only smaller than UCBerkley.

why so few people apply to college of engineering. As so far I only know one person here…

@hongji711 There’s definitely one other guy who was applying to the college of engineering. I’m positive there was someone on this thread who was talking about how they may not be releasing decisions until late November, which I find ridiculous considering the deadline is December 1st.

Yup I am applying to College of Engineering
Just got rejected =(
nvm i’ll try again next semester!

For reference:
Decision: Rejected
Applied major: Industrial Engineering
Current College: Iowa State
Current GPA: 4.0
Credits: 53
HS: intl
UEC (something like A-levels): 3 A1, 1 A2
EC: some, but not much

I think the problem is either my toefl or my essay, the speaking part of the toefl i got 1 point lower than the minimum requirement for Michigan, but the overall is over 100; the essay is actually quite strong, but it shows that i am not interested in engineering but rather business, but i would rather say i wanted a blend of both and i view engineering only as a tool for the business world. Oh well, maybe they think i’m not suitable for their engineering school.

It’s probably your # of credits (<55)

Can’t be number of credits. I was accepted and I have 10 credits. Good luck for next semester!

Sorry to hear that cn9a51. The College of Engineering is much more selective than the other colleges and individuals programs may be full at the time of your application.

@ClutchEngineer - It is likely not his # of credits, he had 53 which is the range U-M looks for. >45 puts you in the safe range.

@Redsdave03 - You were accepted for freshmen admission which made you a lock for transfer admission.

@cn9a51 Sorry for hearing that man! Hope you will get in next semester.

And anybody got accepted by the college of engineering?

@cn9a51 man sorry to hear that bro. I know you’ll get in next semester.

Hey guys albo23 and megagamerexe - do we only receive housing applications after we pay the deposit? Because I haven’t paid yet.

Matisyahu - Yes :)
