Winter 2013 Transfer Thread

Is anyone going to that transfer welcome thing on Friday?

Hey Friday transfer welcoming meeting I will go !!! CC friends WE SHOULD MEET and GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER  !!!

Awesome, I’m going to go as well. I don’t know a soul here besides my roommates, and it would be great to meet the CC people

How can we distinguish with each other? Would any of us shout and ask :" Anyone from CC~?!"

That’s a good point haha. Well I’ll be wearing light jeans and a navy blue sweatshirt with the yellow block M on it. Might not be very helpful but oh well lol

I am Asian wear in a Red Coat–if indoor I took it off, then shadow pink sweater and red scarf.

Anyone know if the infamous albo23 decided to go to U-M?

Sorry I haven’t checked-in in a while. I am staying at Wayne State; my advisers at both Wayne State and UofM convinced me it is not in my best interests to leave a full ride in my undergrad, especially when grad school is in my future. I wish all of you the best! Maybe I will meet you in grad school at UofM, haha.

Okay so I really need some help here, and I haven’t much help from Google and Yahoo answers.

So here is the thing, I was born and raised in the US and moved to Lebanon for high school. I am currently a freshman student at the American University of Beirut. I decided that I want to transfer after my freshman year to a US university, primarily the University of Michigan. My high school scored us using a 100 scale. My final year average was an 80, and if you knew my school, you would be VERY impressed because of how difficult Lebanese schools are. I didn’t put much effort into my SAT score (1600) because my university evaluates our application 50% on school grades and 50% on SAT grades, and with my school’s high status and my good grades I wasn’t too worried.

I just finished my first semester. However, not knowing that I would be planning a transfer, I took all of my hard (with respect to me) courses. This resulted in a poor GPA ~70. I left my easy courses for next semester and I know for SURE that they’re going to bring up my GPA to at least an 80-85.

So I am worried about 2 things:

My first semester grades: I took Math 101, English 203, Chem 101 Lab, Anthropology 103, Chem 101 (which I think I failed because my teacher did not know anything about teaching and all he would do is read of the projector and give us really hard Scranton tests) -Physics 103 (I dropped).
Next semester I will be taking Math 102, Physics 103 and physics 103 Lab, political science 101, computer science 205, philosophy 102. By the end of the year I will have 29 credits ready to transfer. My University is incredibly demanding and the transition phase has been very hard. Most people doing well in the science courses are the students repeating the course. (By the way, we only have Fall, Spring and Summer semesters each about 3 months long)
I want to know how big of an impact my college GPA will be? And whether or not they consider the transition phase?

My SAT scores: I sent my first scores because a SAT score was needed by the deadline. I already applied to retake them but on January 26 because I didn’t know the deadline was this early. I know I can easily get a score somewhere in the 2100’s if I study a little.
However, will they wait for this score? Or make the primary decision on my first one?

I’m really hoping to become a Pre-Med Biology major. I have a lot of community service, good recommendations, and many EC’s. I just want to know if I have a chance.

Any help on any of my questions would be very helpful.
Please and Thank You.
(Sorry for my ridiculously long post)

Hey guys! I don’t know if I have already posted in this thread, but I would really like for someone to chance me. I am applying as a sophomore transfer. I have 18 credits completed, all of which transfer to Michigan.

Stats:
College: 3.88 GPA
EC’s: Soloist in the No Strings Attached A Capella Group at Western Michigan University.
Courses: Calculus with Applications (BA), Direct Encounter with the Arts (A), Intermediate Spanish I (A), and Molecular & Cellular Biology (A)
HS: 3.29 (weighted) GPA/ 3.16 (unweighted)
ACT: 23
EC’s: Choir 4 years, Cheerleading 2 years, Community service at a church, daycare, Mattawan High School, and worked at The Vineyard Cafe for 1 year.

My HS stats are absolutely horrible, however, I discussed my circumstances in my essays. I was horribly bullied in middle school and in high school had no friends, so my focus was more so on social aspects rather than academics.

My other essays I thought were pretty well written and I put a lot of work into them.

My HS stats are low, but my situations is pretty interesting. I had only a 2.3 GPA at the beginning of my junior year but my last two years looked like this:

Junior year
1st semester: 3.72 GPA
2nd semester: 4.057 GPA

Senior year
1st semester: 4.1 GPA
2nd semester: 4.0 GPA

I only took 1 AP class, but got an A, and 2 Honors courses, receiving an A- in one and a B+ in the other.

PLEASE HELP!!! I just turned in everything tonight, so my application is complete! I am extremely hopeful but i would like to hear from you guys so I can have more of an idea of what my decision will be! THANK YOUUU!!

AH! i only have 16 credits completed! sorry! ************ (15 pending)

Hi! I’m planning to transfer to Michigan in the Winter 2014 semester. Can anyone give me any tips or heads up for transitioning? Is it easy to make friends or are people already set in groups?
Thanks.

Hey I’m at MSU right now and I really want to transfer over to Ann Arbor. My GPA in college is a 3.8, I have around 40 or so credits, and a 27 on my ACT. I’ll be a sophomore next year.
Can someone tell me what my chances are to getting in, and the steps I need to take to transfer? I’ve started the Common App, but it doesn’t let me choose winter semester of 2014, and says the deadline was 02/01/13. I’m really confused about that. I’m pretty much all done with the application, but on the U-M supplement section, it only lets me choose two schools (Education and Dental Hygiene). I’m kind of lost right now and can really use the advice, thanks!

I know this post is old but @d4wnzz what were you high school stats? Our college stats are seriously almost identical. I have a 3.87 with 36 completed credits, and just applied for winter 2014. I will have 54 incoming if I am to be admitted, but I did not have a good high school record. I am wondering if you had good hs grades?

How many essays do we have to write for transfer application?

Also, since the deadline for fall 2014 is february 1st, can we apply earlier and receive a decision by december? ( I don’t want to apply EA though ).

just to let all you young nuts know, the transfer deadline for winter 2013 has been moved back till oct 15 bcuz the app was up late.
