Winter 2013 Transfer Thread

i would say mich>emory haha. i have friends in emory too. Its less pretigious imo. depends on what u are studying too

Emory’s going to have much better weather haha

Has anyone signed up for the Transfer Connections program? What do I have to do and what is it?

@Matis So have u decided to be a wolverine? lol

@Matisyahu I did. I haven’t heard back, though. You just have to fill out an application. It’s not really hard or time consuming.

Did anyone take the Spanish placement test already? How on earth do you get the listening parts to work?

Does anyone know where albo23 decided to go? Last time I saw him, he was wondering whether Umich was worth it.

@matis, i was wondering too… Have u decided? What about other colleges? NYU?

NYU isn’t giving any money.
Emory is ranked 20 but ranking doesn’t really matter…
But Emory sends more people to better law schools each year so idk.

@Matisyahu - Michigan has one of the best political science programs in the country though. The specialization that I’m choosing (American Politics) is number one in the country. I’d definitely go to U-M if you still want to pursue a poli-sci degree.

If anyone is looking for a single in South Quad for Winter 2013, please message me. I am a Winter 2013 transfer who was assigned here but am looking to go to an apartment instead.

@1905 is it substance free?

Also is Michigan hard grade-wise?

Is it possible to get rejected after being accepted for transfer? I was accepted for Winter '13 semester as a transfer student from MSU, with a 3.58 and 30 completed/16 pending credits, but decided to stay at State for another semester to get some of my required sciences done. What would need to happen for me not to get accepted for Fall '13 semester upon applying again? i.e. if my GPA were to drop to possibly a 3.4? If it counts for anything, this year I did start at the Honors College, joined 6 clubs (having had none upon my last acceptance) and took biology and organic chemistry together. Right now I have 46 credits with 14 pending for next semester. Thanks.

THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN TO ORIENTATION.
HOW WAS IT? Also did you all sign up for classes?

@Matisyahu It was long and boring. They definitely tried to make it a little more interesting with a live performance and a video, but it’s tough to make that stuff not seem dry. It took me three hours to schedule my classes with my advisor. Transfer students are absolutely screwed in terms of picking classes to fit into a schedule.

@redsdave03 did you meet a lot of other people?

Can anyone describe orientation for me? I’m going on the 7th of January.

@Matisyahu - I met two people, but I’ll probably never see them again. Basically, they had you get your M card then they give a short welcome presentation. Then people either take foreign language placement exams (except Spanish) or they go on a campus tour. Then they do a couple of presentations introducing you to aspects of the university. Then you get lunch at one of the fast food places in the basement of the union. Then you have a security talk and a financial aid talk. After that, they have some drama club put on a show for you. Then you register for your classes, which for me was a nightmare. I’d guess that you won’t have it as bad given the fact that you’re registering in January because a lot of people have probably dropped out between now and when I registered. After that, you’re free to go unless you want a tour of North campus. And that’s transfer orientation in a nutshell. It was fine.

I was wondering if anyone who got in would want to chance me? I just applied for the spring 2013 term

I stressed in my essays that Michigan has always been my first choice and that the program here doesn’t suit my interests. I had them edited by a few of my michigan friends and I think they’re pretty strong.

Thanks!
