Winter holiday decorations 2025

We are leaving here early in the morning on Dec 29, so no real or fake tree this year. Just my little ceramic tree with the lights. BUT I finally learned to make bows, and decorated some wreathes for the garage area outside.

I gave my large pre lit artificial tree to a friend. I am paring down the ornaments . D has a smaller “ apartment size” tree she is giving to me and that’s what I will put up. I do a few other inside decorations and always get a large poinsettia from my financial planners office and that about rounds it out.

Ds is here for the week of TG, and we finished the tree yesterday. Beyond that we have stockings, an advent calendar, and a Mary/Joseph/Jesus.

I’d like to do some outdoor lights along our railings. We’ll see if I get around to it this year.

Because our son and his wife are with us this week (yay!), DH will not have to put up the tree and the rest of the Christmas crap alone on Friday, and I will be spared the torment. In fact, I will probably be in a good mood that day, keeping my humbugs to a minimum aided by nutmeg dusted adult egg nog. Let the fa-la-la begin (but not one minute earlier than the last T-day morsel is digested).

I’m pretty hard and fast to wait and let thanksgiving be thanksgiving.

We also have a family bday on the 30th so try and give that its due.

Inside I focus on just a few things and don’t do all the “trinkets and extras” of decades past. We do a “real” tree, lights and felt garland on the fireplace, a mini tree with 10 felt “lights” on our sunporch and upstairs in our family room/loft a 2-3 Ft grapevine cone “tree” with colored lights and some twinkly lights on our railing up there.

It’s all about the lights for me.

Outside we keep it simple with a small flocked tree on a table on our porch with twinkling lights, some large colored bulbs around our porch entry and this year we may try to wrap some lights around the lower form of our Chinese maple branches.

Usually we don’t put any Christmas decorations up until the weekend before Christmas. And we leave them up until the weekend after New Years. BUT Thanksgiving is late this year and we need to take our indoor decorations down on December 27. That’s why we got a little head start with the outside wreaths.

We will put the stockings, and fireplace mantle decorations out this weekend sometime. And the ceramic tree. And the holiday table cloth, kitchen placemats, and dining room table decor. And get out a bunch of the Christmas mugs…we have a ton of those!

We downsized out home this year and I was going to downsize our decorating, but yesterday I saw a hilarious outdoor display on my daughter’s street. Grinch was pulling off a half strand of lights from a home. I might have to copy it.
