Hello,

I hope to attend UC Davis in the Winter Quarter of 2010. By the end of my Fall Semester in 2009, I will have 60 units completed. I have a couple of questions to ask. How would my chances be affected if I need to retake a 2 classes (1 in the Summer and 1 in the Fall)? Is there any programs that I can enroll in (besides a Winter TAG because my community college does not have a contract) to help my chances of getting in? Also, does anyone have any suggestions for me to do in order to increase my chances of getting in? Thanks in advanced.

Retaking courses during the summer session should replace the failing grade (‘D’ of ‘F’ grade) of courses when you file your application update. We wouldn’t have the grades from the fall term soon enough to include in your review. Unfortunately, UC Davis will not be accepting application for the Winter 2010 term; nor will we be writing any TAG agreements for this term. Applying for Fall 2010 will give you time to replace both failing grades in summer and fall.

Thanks for the information. What do you think would be the best route for me in order to attend UC Davis? I also believe that I read that having more than 70 units will hurt my chances. Will this be the case since I might stay for the spring? Or should I take some upper division classes at a near by state college (Cal State East Bay is less than 10 miles away) then transfer? Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

FutureAggie,

I’d recommend you contact our office to discuss your unit concerns. If you have only attended two year schools, California Community Colleges, then you have nothing to be concerned about. We can only transfer up to 70 semester units from two year colleges; however, reaching 70 semester transferable units will not have an effect on your admissions.

However if you have units from a 4 year college, like Cal State East Bay, then you could reach our unit limitation of 80 semester transferable units. This could make it more difficult for us to admit you.

If this confuses you I’d search for the many other threads that discuss the transfer unit limitations or contact our office.
