Winter/warm vacation ideas

The snakes would be a deal breaker for me!

Funny - in my last company, I dealt with Guam - and they used to tell me - come, we have nice hotels, TGI Fridays and you’d never know it different than Main Street uSA.

I never went - I would go to Puerto RIco each month thought. I just worked with Guam - but snakes were never mentioned.

I wouldn’t want to be in my hotel - and something slithered by me.

It was also terribly hot and muggy. Good thing he was sporting that tropical Army haircut.

Well, it IS a U.S. territory.

I seem to remember that childhood spring break trips (from NY) to FL there was a fair chance of rainy weather. But per weatherspark tis not a lot of March rain. Fort Lauderdale Climate, Weather By Month, Average Temperature (Florida, United States) - Weather Spark

Iguanas and chicken abound in the Caribbean. Invasive species. Maybe better than snakes.

Depends on if they are poisonous or not.

Yeah, we are lucky to always have decent to excellent weather. We also have no snakes and very few things that are poisonous.

We do have pretty high humidity, which don’t gind challenging.

We left Maui yesterday after 7 nights, and are now in Kauai. Got here just before sunset.

Has anybody ever booked a trip with United Vacations? There are some packages that are cheaper than us doing our own resort reservation & United flights.

I can give a bit of feedback on United Vacations because we did a booking today (have 24 hours to change our mind and cancel). It’s not as closely aligned to United website as we’d like. Another company (not sure the name , but Expedia-like) is involved. So when you try to “sign in” with United id, you have to re-enter your info (KTN etc). And you can’t pick your seats up front. The call center agreed with my idea to first check the desired flight on United site to check that there are pairs of seats available together etc.

@Colorado_mom - I think it was you who asked about places you can go without a car that are warm.
We spent 5 nights in San Diego (including visiting @Marilyn for a few minutes) several years ago. It was easy to Uber from the airport to the place we stayed, and we could walk to a lot of places. We rented bicycles for a couple of days because that’s normal for us, but I think you could have fun there without a car.

Thanks for all the good ideas. I’ll come back and reread when planning for next winter.

Just came home from the United Vacations package for an all-inclusive near Puerto Vallarta that we really liked in Feb 2023. Booked it 9 days before departure, felt most at ease going someplace we know and trust. Love that it’s a direct flight. Mostly we had lazy days at the resort but did one nice daytrip bus tour to small town of San Sebastián in the mountains.

Sounds really nice.

I love direct flights, unfortunately for me the options are few

Just came back from Arizona (Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tucson). There were several days last week when it was actually warmer back in Boston, where I live, than in AZ. Rained two days, first rain they had in 160 days. Still had a great time (and honestly when it was sunny and 80 the last day it felt very hot to me!)

I’ll be there at the beginning of April! Looking forward to it!

Yep, unseasonable weather the past couple of weeks here in the Phoenix metro area. We postposted our pizza party from last Friday (53 degrees) to tomorrow (80 degrees) so we can open up all the doors and windows and put on the steel drum music as planned. No one wants an indoor party here. The much-needed rain was wonderful, though.

Come back again, @kiddie. Usually, this is a great time of the year to visit.

When in Mexico, we saw temps were in 60s back home in Colorado. Can’t pretend it didn’t please me to hear that it was verrrry windy, good week to be away.

Spent last week in Puerto Rico. Highly recommend visiting! It was an especially great destination from the east coast, as it didn’t feel like an entire day was spent on either end traveling. Direct flight (3.5 hours), no passport/immigration/currency issues to attend to once we arrived, just grab an uber and go. We touched down and were checked in to our hotel within 45 minutes. On our return day, we spent most of the day exploring Old San Juan, then grabbed a 25 minute ride to the airport, hopped on a 6:30pm flight and pulled in to our driveway at 11pm. It really made us feel like we maximized our vacation days.

We spent the bulk of our time visiting beaches in Fajardo, with day excursions to El Younque and Vieques. Would love to return and see the other side of the Island next time.

The people were lovely, the food was delicious and the weather was phenomenal.
