With the advent of Wireless and Cellular technology, now we have a lot of choices. I have been using wired ADT service for a long time. Recently, the wiring of the alarm system has a problem and some part of the house can no longer be covered. ADT charges arm and leg to repair it, they want $200 just to diagnose, more for repair.
I have been investigating other alternatives, trying to find a better solution so that I do not have to subscribe an analog ATT line just for monitoring and make the system more robust by employing the wireless and cellular technologies.
I have been using the Simplisafe system else where in my property. Recent investigation found the system probably is not the best on the current market. There are systems have more functions but not sure the cost is comparable to Simplisafe.
What is your opinion?
Our current house came with a wired security system, but that went away with new windows and doors. We went with ADT wireless and am very happy with it. There are numerous coupons, sales, fliers for the equipment that can mean little to no outlay for those- which you own. We have various door opening alarms which we also have beep when a door is opened. Also window alarms but we went with a room motion sensor in at least one room because too many alarms would have been needed if we did it for each window there.
I like the stay/away and other features and the way we just hit one button to turn the system on in the chosen mode- need code to turn it off. Old house’s system required the code for both.
There are various features to consider that we did not. Our technician removed some of the old system- touch pad and disconnected the old box for free so he could use the same spot.
My vote- wireless ADT.
Bumping this thread. My D will be renting an apt. What would be a good security alarm for renters?
I think there are more wireless choices now on the market and ADT is a big name and big money with less service. I saw a lot of my neighbors switching.
Personally I have been happy with Simplisafe.
