Wireless Networking Card

What’s the difference between:

Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps)
Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915 Internal Wireless (802.11 a/b/g, 54Mbps)

Should I spend $25 more for the latter if I’ll be using my laptop around campus?

not likely… a/b/g just indicates it can use a as a signal too… since most colleges don’t have a routers or signals, there’s no point in buying the latter

Without getting into the frequency and range numbers, most schools and businesses use b/g (with “g” having a greater range and data transfer rates than “b”).

Wireless “A” is used by a few business enterprises and organizations. It has excellent range and throughput. “A” is pretty rare. Unless you know that your school supports “A”, save your money.

Thanks for the insights guys.

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 6000:
Centrino 1.6 ghz, 512 ram, 60 gig@7200rpm, XP Pro, DVD/CDRW 24x, Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200, 64mb ATI Radeon for $1030 (tax and shipping included)! This is a pretty sweet deal with the $600 off $1499 coupon.
