Wisdom teeth removal scheduling

Just curious - when I had my wisdom teeth removed about 30 years ago, the oral surgeon recommended doing one side at a time (top & bottom). This way, only one side of your mouth was out of commission at a time and less overall pain. So I had two procedures, one over spring break and one at the beginning of summer. Some friends who went to other oral surgeons also received this advise.

Has the thought process changed? Did some people never come back for the second procedure? Did they not want to pay for a second sedation?
