Excerpt:
But David Parker, 25, of New Jersey, who hopes to launch a digital media business with a Harvard classmate, is worried that even though his plans are comparatively less risky, “we’ll see if our funding dries up, too.”

“I’m definitely not feeling lucky,” Parker said. “Looking back over the last few years people were making a million dollars or more at my age. It is somewhat disheartening to see that and I wish I’d had an interest in hedge funds.”

Is it just me, or is this ENTITLEMENT on a whole other level. I don’t care if you just graduated from God-Maker University and work 100 hours a week, expecting to make more than a $1,000,000 a year at 24, or any age for that matter, is simply ridiculous, selfish, and disgusting. You might as well dream about robbing or murdering people.

This guy is just totally oblivious to reality, and I fear there are many more like him.

Sigh! Why do I have to be part of Gen Y?

Discuss the repercussions for American society.

“It is odd to watch with what feverish ardor Americans pursue prosperity. Ever tormented by the shadowy suspicion that they may not have chosen the shortest route to get it. They cleave to the things of this world as if assured that they will never die, and yet rush to snatch any that comes within their reach as if they expected to stop living before they had relished them. Death steps in, in the end, and stops them before they have grown tired of this futile pursuit of that complete felicity which always escapes them.”

I can see why it would be ridiculous to a certain extent (it is rare, but possible) but why is it selfish or disgusting? Because other people are poor?

Every person design his/her own destiny. You can’t feel guilty that you are on your way to making 7 digits at 25 while the poor can’t pay their rent. Most of them had the same opportunities as you. They didn’t take them. You did.

And if they didn’t, it’s still not your fault. You are successful and they are not- why feel guilty? If you feel so guilty, go and offer them your 7 digits. You will see how fast they snatch it up and they won’t get an ounce of guilt while doing it.
