Hi

I am married and have one kid and need to estimate my EFC and want to know which of

the following afctor can increase the EFC

I am living in relative home without paying any bill .

I have cash in hand $ 6000 remaninng from selling overseas property

I get monthly transfer from parents abroad $ 1000 to support our expenses

I have some earning from selling on ebay its about $ 7500

My question is which of the above , will influence my EFC and am i likely able to get full pell garnt

Regards

All of them will influence your EFC - well, except for living in the relative’s home. Most income you get influences your EFC. However, given that your total is only about $27,000 a year, and you have a child and are married, your EFC will probably still be very low.

It is important to know that if you have annual earnings of $7500 from selling on eBay, you need to file a tax return. That is where I have seen folks get tripped up … they have income, but they don’t file a return, and the financial aid officer has to say, “Sorry, no aid” if you were required to file but failed to do so.

You have a dependent, so your $6000 asset is not an issue for aid.

You have $12,000 in untaxed income. That “can” increase your EFC. However, if you are able to file a 1040A or 1040EZ (which you cannot do if you have business income - and selling on eBay is business income) OR if anyone in your household has received federal means-tested benefits in the past 24 months (such as SNAP or free/reduced lunch) OR you are a dislocated worker, your untaxed income would be irrelevant because your EFC would be 0.

I did a quick EFC calculation, and even with an AGI of $7500, savings of $6000, and untaxed income of $12,000 you would likely have a 0 EFC.
