I’m a Philosophy major at my two year college holding a 4.0 with mostly honors credits. I assessed directly into Calculus and decided to take it as my first math course. Two major tests later with D’s and I think maybe it was a bad idea to arrogantly take a challenging course I didn’t need.

I want to transfer to a school such as Amherst, Dartmouth, Middlebury, Bowdoin, Wellesley, or Claremont Mckenna. I’m holding a 4.0, am president of a club I founded that does community outreach, and am working on publishing undergraduate research in an undergraduate research journal my college is working on starting this year.

If I take a W on my transcript by dropping Calculus I, Honors and instead CLEP College Algebra and take Statistics Honors (need to math courses) would this be not challenging enough of choices in math to get into a school such as Amherst? Amherst, for example, does not take credits under Calculus, so this makes me think anything lower isn’t respected.

Anyone with any experience on this topic? I desperately need outside guidance from sources familiar with elite college transfers.

Thank you!
