Just wondering if there are any negative implications to withdrawing from a class after the drop/add period? Through a miscommunication, my daughter is at the high end of credit hours and would like to drop one of her gen eds for now. She would still be at a reasonable number of credits to keep her ft status.

The only negative thing is having to pay for the class that she won’t finish (if tuition is based per credit hour).

If she goes to a school that charges flat full time tuition then this obviously won’t be a problem.

As long as it doesn’t put her behind where she has to take an extra semester of college, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Grad schools don’t care at all. The majority of students have a “W” on their transcript at some point in time.

I had at least 5. I wouldn’t worry about it.

If withdrawal is best, she should do so ASAP so that she might get a percentage of her money back (if your university charges by the credit for F/T students).

If the course is a gen ed she can always satisfy the requirement later; hopefully it’s not a prereq for any major courses.

FYI, there are new federal regulations concerning Financial Aid that just went into effect on July 1 - depending if this is an issue (you have financial aid), and depending how the regulations are interpreted at your D’s institution, withdrawals may count against “pace” or how quickly she is completing credits toward a degree. Probably not be an issue at all, but it might be something to note for students who have lots of withdrawals over their college career.
