Withdrawing from a class

i took band in 9th grade, and i withdrew after the 1st semester due to family reasons ( i was almost stranded at the school after a reshearsal ), and that i was told to sacrifice big extracurricular activities ( debate match at HARVARD! ) in order to attend a small competition. Also, i started doing an ISTS project after i withdrew. How would these factors affect my college addmission to a great school? ( like MIT, my first choice)

How many things did you withdraw from? If it was just a few in exchange for another few that you kept at, that is absolutely normal and fine.
However, if you kept withdrawing from numerous activities and show no consistency or interests, that may present a problem. If this is due to family reasons, you should mention why you have not kept up some consistency. Otherwise, I think you’ll be fine.
