This topic has been posted frequently, but I wanted to reconfirm whether the decision I’m making is correct.
I’m a electrical engineering major at a CCC, and I’m currently a second year taking four courses.
The courses I’m taking are Calc 2, Physics A (classical mechanics and etc), basic circuits, and matlab programming.
The course I want to withdraw from is matlab programming because the grade I’m getting is far below my expectations and I’m having hard time focusing on other classes because matlab takes so much time for me to understand.
If I withdraw from this course I’m confident that I can focus more time into my other classes and get A’s.
My worry is that even though matlab programming isn’t a pre-requisite for transfer admission, I’ve been told that it’s a important skill to know and use for many electrical engineers.
If I withdraw from the matlab programming class will the transfer admission look me down for withdrawing from a such important course?

I think that most EE programs will want to see a Numerical Methods or MATLAB programming course on the transcript in order to graduate. As long as it is OK with them that you don’t transfer in with that course, then you should be fine, as long as you realize that you are probably ‘behind’ your classmates who took it as a Sophomore. Check to see exactly what your university wants to see on the transcripts of students who transfer in, and make sure that you have all of those classes. You may have to make up a class or two, preferably in the Summer, so it doesn’t impact on the rest of your course load.
At my college, ENGR 204 - Applied Numerical Methods, is our MATLAB course, and we tell EE transfer students that it depends on where they are transferring to, as to whether or not they should be taking that course with us.
