Withdrawing from berkeley before first semester question

Hey forum,

Okay so here is my situation; I am currently at UC berkeley right now for my first semester, but I am going to have to withdraw due to some personal circumstances. In the mean time, I am joining the army reserves, yet I will be applying to schools around my area in Socal for the fall of 2011. My question is since I am taking a withdraw and haven’'t completed any units yet, am I still considered a transfer from CC since I only completed 69 UC and 68 CSU units? ANy feedback would be great…thanks

You’re taking “Ws” on your record?

And you have nearly 140 units to your record from UC/CSU schools?

I was originally a transfer student from a CC, but got admitted to Berkeley for fall of 2010 which I am currently attending right now. The fact is I am going to have to withdraw; therefore, I have not completed any units here at Berkeley. The thing is I will be applying to other universities for the fall of next year, but I wanted to know if I am still considered a CC transfer since I am withdrawing from Berkeley for the good?

I’m confused when you say “am I still considered a transfer from CC since I only completed 69 UC and 68 CSU units?”

If you were a CC transfer and this is your first semester, how do you have any UC/CSU units?

When applying as a transfer student both UC and CSU units will be treated the same since they are both four year universities and the units will be added together to determine if you are over the limit or not. You say you have a total of 137 UC/CSU units. Are these semester units or quarter units? If they are semester units both the UCs and CSUs will consider you a senior and reject your transfer application. If they are quarter units that is still about 92 units from four year universities which would probably also make you a senior at the UCs and CSUs and disqualify you from applying to those schools as a transfer. Private universities may have different policies.

These units I am referring to were accumulated at my CC. I earned 69 UC transferable units at my CC before I transferred to berkeley this fall semester, so technically I haven’t earned any units in my first semester at berkeley

I don’t know the answer to your question but to clarify, I think he meant his units were CSU/UC transferable, not that he had a total of 69 UC and 68 CSU units. So, out of his 69 units, 1 unit was UC transferable but not CSU.

Talk to someone and see if you can get your enrollment deferred.

what he said.

Yes, you will still be a CC transfer student. You’re allowed to earn up to 30 quarter/20 semester UC units before you become a UC-to-UC transfer, regardless of how many CC units you had before. However, you need to enroll in at least one unit for the spring at a CC to re-establish yourself as a student. It doesn’t need to be a transferable course, but you need to take one unit.
