Withdrawing late in the game

Hi all,

This is my second to last semester of undergrad, and I’m applying to several schools of Library Science for next year. I’m taking fencing, a one credit recreation course, for no particular reason (I don’t need hours, it isn’t for GE…I just felt like poking people with bits of metal). Unfortunately, it isn’t working out–I’m a decent fencer, but every time I go to class on Monday I end up throwing my leg out and have to sit the rest of the week out. It’s not very pleasant to be physically impaired in my daily activities, either.

I don’t think it’s worth it to stay in the course and would like to withdraw, but there seems to be a general consensus that withdrawals are bad, especially in my last year (and the last semester some schools will see on the official transcript). Since it is an unnecessary course, and library schools shouldn’t care how well I can parry, will the glaring W affect the admissions committees at all? I don’t want to waste good SoP space to address it, since it is so trivial.

A withdrawal from fencing? I don’t think you need to worry about this.
