Withdrawn from current school due to tuition. Advice?

So I’ll be a sophomore this fall but because of my mom being a single parent she’s pretty much on her own with tuition. So not long ago the school mailed us saying that I was withdrawn from the school. Didn’t really take that well but there was nothing I could do about it. Not only that, but I was also worried about the classes I’ll get when I register. I’m pretty sure there won’t be any room in the honor classes. I even requested double maths this year. So I’m pretty sure none of these classes will consider me when I re-register. Will my classes stay the same? Should I be worried? Who can I talk to about my WHOLE roster? I’m also worried about my mom because she’s the only one helping me attend school, she’s been working night shifts an all. I just don’t know what to do

Start with your college’s financial aid office. Were you withdrawn by the school due to money owing from last year or because no payments have been made yet for next year? Have your financial circumstances changed? Do you need to appeal your financial aid award letter?

The OP is in high school student, apparently attending a private school.

sorry for not being clear enough but I’m in highschool @Jamrock411 @siliconvalleymom

Since you were withdrawn from the school for financial reasons why are you talking about what courses you will get when you finally get to register? Is your mom planning on paying the tuition bills a bit later? Or are you worrying about the classes you might get into when you register at the public school?

@CheddarcheeseMN I know my mom will pay but it’ll be a bit late. I’m more worried about my mom then I am with my courses but I was just worried that if I registered late, the classes I was supposed to be in will be filled and they’ll just throw me anywhere else that needs filling.

I suggest emailing the school counselor and telling him or her that you are definitely planning on attending and you are concerned about getting the courses that you want.

@CheddarcheeseMN very helpful, Thank You very much

Have you considering registering at your local public school as a backup option in case the finances do not work out?

If your single mom can ill afford your private HS, then the obvious solution is to attend public school.

Can you go to public school and be at the top of your class there, thus relieving your mom of the physical, emotional and financial stress? If your private school is that dismissive of people who pay late, why would you want to stay there?

This is the college parents forum. Did you mean to post this on the prep school forum?

If the school has already notified you that you are withdrawn, presumably for financial reasons…you will NOT be able to register for classes until your bill is paid in full. You won’t be able to attend at all if your bill is paid late.

If your family has financial issues, I would suggest you look into the local public school.

Does your private HS give need based financial aid? Did you apply for it?

You need to get yoir finances settled before you plan to continue at this HS. It is very possible it is simply not affordable. Talk to the school about financial aid.

Why not consider going to the public school, unless you think it’s in a dangerous neighborhood or something? Take the pressure off your mom and let her start saving for college.
