Wofford Scholars

Does anyone have experience with this? My daughter got the Scholars day invite last night and is choosing an alternate date for the interview because she has a prior commitment on the actual day. I feel like this is more of a chance to get kids on campus for a visit than a true scholarship competition as it is so early in the process and invites are coming out based just on ACT scores pretty much. I’m not opposed to that and my daughter is looking forward to it I’m just trying to get a read on the situation. Any experience anyone has with this program is appreciated.

My daughter has a 34 ACT/4.0 unweighted gpa/ lots of leadership and service so hoping to be a candidate for large merit award. Our state flagship will be very inexpensive for her but a smaller school might be a better fit so trying to shoot a couple shots at merit. But we won’t qualify for enough FA to make it competitive with our in state publics.

Not familiar but it sounds similar to other scholarship weekends or days - maybe not as in depth. But based on the performance, you may get named to an endowed scholarship or university one. They list them here.

It’s similar to the College of Charleston Fellows (another to look at) and the W&L Johnson - maybe not as in depth as it’s a one day thing but….at some, they may see how you interact with others, as an example.

There are others too. Mercer U as an example.

I’d imagine it’s well worth attending - especially for a student with your stats - who should apply to more schools with these type programs.
