<p>ADRIAN – A woman who pleaded guilty to drunken driving after she drank three glasses of Listerine was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation. </p>

<p>Carol Ries, 50, of Adrian must take a breathalyzer test twice a day as a condition of her probation, a Lenawee District Court administrator said. She also must pay $1,095 in fines and court costs. </p>

<p>Police suspected Ries had been drinking after she rear-ended another vehicle at a red light on Jan. 9. She passed one breathalyzer test but failed another that uses different equipment. Her blood alcohol level was .30, more than three times the legal limit. </p>

<p>Police found a bottle of Listerine in her car, and she told them she drank three glasses of the mouthwash earlier in the day. Ries pleaded guilty to drunken driving on Jan. 20. </p>

<p>According to Listerine manufacturer Pfizer Inc.'s Web site, original formula Listerine contains 26.9 percent alcohol, more than four times that of many malt liquors. Other varieties contain 21.6 percent alcohol. </p>

<p>Ries didn’t have an attorney, the court administrator said. No telephone listings could be found for a Carol Ries in Adrian, which is about 75 miles southwest of Detroit. </p>

<p>Ries could have faced up to 93 days in jail.</p>

<p>Hmm…that’s old news. I read that a while ago. Did you know that if you use listerine everyday, by the time you’re like 60, you’ll have stubs for teeth? It’s from all the alcohol…that’s why I use a non-alcohol mouthwash…and only occasionally will I use something stronger.</p>

<p>How could she even walk after blowing a .30? The highest I have ever blown is .284 and I blacked out and couldn’t remember anything.</p>

<p>Maybe her alcohol level is high? Some people have diferent levels to get drunk.</p>

<p>She would have to be drunk like that almost every day. I have met maybe one out of 100 alcoholics who are like that. Its can happen, but its very rare.</p>
