yeah, thanks nikeswoosh… I meant eugenics. (what can I say…I’m not too good with racial supremacy vocab.)

“Actually, the representation of Asians in US colleges is many times greater than their representation in comparison with the US population as a whole.”

This may be true, but one must also consider that Duke admits a great deal of international students. In a global perspective, asians significantly outnumber any other race.

*Off the record, my friend from C++ class who was born in India said the reason why asians seem to dominate academics in America is “That all the smart ones got out [of Asia]”

One possible reason the numbers look so low is that Asians will intentionally underreport their race.

If you look at the numbers of Chinese-Americans in medical school, Duke apparently has three and the University of Chicago has two. The numbers, I suppose, might be accurate, but I doubt it.

Asians aren’t stupid - when we’re asked for our race, we know the information will be used against us (estimated at 50 SAT points, but that’s of course very difficult to quantify; citation below), so we don’t fill in the boxes on our college apps.

Yeah, I didn’t post my ethnicity… Korean.

But still, I find the whole asian=smart stereotype blown out of proportion. I’m the only asian in my highschool with over 4.0, and over SAT 2000.

Maybe it’s just where I live, i don’t know

hahahaha… well my high school was about 5% asian…but of the top ten in my class, 6 were asian. even though it doesn’t ALWAYS apply, the stereotype is still based on something observable.

LoL. At my school, the top students are either Irish or African American 2nd generationers. The Asian students are at the bottom-middle of the class.

Weirdly enough, it wasn’t until I came on these forums did I realize the gross perceptions people have about black students. Maybe it’s because I live in Massachusetts where schools are competitive, but the black students I’ve encountered were usually smart and hard-working. At my school, my friends who are Asian and White will say the same thing.

Or could it be that Asian males are not attracted to white female engineering students?

Asians are discriminated against in the college admissions process at many schools because there are so many with high academic credentials. African Americans are over-represented and Aisans are under-represented. You need only look at admissions stats to verify this.

When California passed the “no discrimination based on race” statute, the Asian attendance sky rocketed and the African American and Hispanic population went way down.

How come everyone forgets about the Hispanics? They are the largest minority in the U.S.

Now, guess which one I am?
[Answer: It shouldn’t matter.]
