<p>Carnegie Mellon started an annual conference called OurCS - Opportunities for Undergraduate Research in Computer Science aimed at women. Microsoft and Women@SCS, Carnegie Mellon sponsored it and paid for hotel, meals and cost of attendance (applicant pays airfare and $25 registration fee.)</p>
<p>My daughter was alerted to it by a professor and she came back from the weekend all fired up as far as signing up for some kind of math exam and summer REU, so I thought it was worth a mention here.</p>
<p>There are research workshops teams during the conference. Students are invited to present research from summer or previous college year. Speakers included the 2006 Turing Award winner, Francis Allen. There was much discussion and info given on REU programs, internship opportunities and grad school.</p>
<p>There were speakers and a panel on applying to grad schools, including PhD programs. And there was a panel of current grad school students to discuss life and work in grad school.</p>
<p>They were very generous and gave the participants a lipstick drive preloaded with the conference materials.</p>
