Women in Engineering or M&T

Can anyone describe the atmosphere in engineering or M&T for women? My daughter is interested in Mechanical or Systems Engineering and Operations Management but doesn’t want to be the ONLY woman. She’s looking for a “critical mass” of women in her field. The big time engineering schools have these statistics but I can’t find any statistics for Penn. Penn offers the one thing that big engineering schools don’t have: A CITY.

I might be wrong but SEAS might be between 30 and 40% female. Some majors like BE, Systems, and maybe CBE are more girl heavy than stuff like MEAM and EE. While she might not have a ton of girls in her engineering classes, she’ll find enough girls through her other classes like graduation requirements and Wharton ones (if she gets into M+T). She’ll find more girls if she does engineering at a women’s school, but those tend to be ranked fairly low (like other LACs).

Other schools to look at might be Columbia and Princeton which both have Operations Research majors in their engineering schoos.
