I don’t know specific brands, but I so have some Spanx-type ones from Kohls also. They are quite comfortable. If anyone has brand comparisons, I’d love to know… I appreciate the candor on these threads, both pro or con. I’ve often wondered if the higher-end shapewear work better or are more comfortable, but I guess I haven’t wondered enough to invest in these yet. So far, the less costly ones have been doing the trick. Take care,

I am a larger woman, and shapewear makes all my clothes look better. I don’t expect it to make me look thinner, but it gives me smooth lines and removes the random jiggles. I agree that I have better posture. My only problem with shapewear in this weather is that I don’t want or need an extra layer of fabric in 100 degrees, but I don’t really want to subject my friends and family to the wiggles and jiggles either.

I have gone with the larger size in shapewear and still find that it introduces strange seams that show beneath my outfit. Maybe if they made a shape wear piece that went from neck to toes . . .

For me, it’s about finding the right size, texture and style of clothes. If I get that right, then the under garments are not a big deal . . . and I’m comfortable.

Us Spanx wearers (in my case the walmart version) are not alone

I will wear the spanks bike shorts looking things under skirts and dresses. I know this doesn’t sound pleasant but since pantyhose are now out apparently, I don’t want my thighs rubbing together.

Although on the pantyhose issue - how do dress shoes not hurt your feet when you are barefoot? I buy nice, expensive well fitting shoes too and I still hate bare feet in pumps.

I recently purchased a dress for a special occasion. The dress fit, and was a flattering cut, but the fabric showed every bump/line. I purchased a camisole-type shapewear top at Kohl’s to wear underneath. The dress was black and the cami was black, and it worked really well and was also comfortable. Plus, the dress was a little more low cut than I usually wear, and the cami covered that area and stayed put, so I didn’t have to constantly check cleavage.

I wore the dress for a different event before the occasion I purchased it for, kind of as a test run. My college-age D was home at the time and was complimenting me on how I looked. I told her how I had discovered shapewear and suggested if she ever needed to smooth things under a clingy garment it was quite useful. She replied that she already owned some to wear under her clingy sweater dresses!

I have since worn the camisole under a few other things - it is comfortable to wear, plus it does make me less self-conscious about the bumps and the cleavage.

No truth in the advertising of these items – all of the links show young things with nary a bulge to suppress.

I second eyemamom’s question about not wearing pantyhose with shoes. My other question is, if one is wearing bare feet in one’s shoes, don’t the shoes get smelly and unhygienic? I always thought one of the points of wearing hose of some sort is to get the hose dirty but keep the shoes clean – since you can’t wash your shoes.

I’ve started wearing the flesh-colored, low-cut footies under my dress shoes in the summer. They don’t show at all and are more comfortable than wearing them barefoot. I got mine at Target, but they’re available pretty much anywhere that pantyhose are.

I put some baby powder in my shoes before placing my bare feet in them. Help alot! Not a ton, just kind of like flouring the cake pan. :)

One piece of lingerie I do use under dresses a lot is a slip. I have one from Calvin Klein in a nude color that is really simple and makes dresses slide on really comfortably. Also helps with static cling. It will pretty much erase the underwear lines from showing beneath the dress. Plus makes me feel good. In spanx I feel like a sausage.

^^^ Looks like someone did a google search for shapewear and found this thread. (smirk)
