Women Over 50: How Do You Feel About Losing Your Looks?

MDMom, I do know people who have half siblings that are twenty years+older or younger than they are.
One friend’s ( who is in his late 50s),father was an admiral in the war. (British)WWI.

One of the perks of being with my original husband is that he still sees me as I was when we met, when I was 18!

I know, emeraldkity4, it is possible, but we are talking 33 years. We have laughed about it a lot.

cbreeze - I am on a quest to find the best facial hair removal strategy. I used to just pluck the occasional errant hair on my chin. That was no longer enough. I started going for electrolysis but honestly, after a year I was still waging war with chin hairs. Then I tried having my chin waxed, but then ALL of the hair is removed and those spikey black ones can survive waxing. What kind of cream are your fellow women using?

I just bought my mom one of those facial hair trimmers for her chin - that is the best solution for her, but I don’t want to start shaving.

And then there is laser, but I have heard mixed reviews.

ARRRGH!!!

worknprogress, most of us are using this[/url”>http://www.amazon.com/Surgi-cream-Remover-Gentle-Formula-1-Ounce/dp/B00138Q4V2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340644076&sr=8-1&keywords=surgi+facial+cream]this

It’s important to read the instructions carefully.

My sincere thanks - I just ordered it on Amazon - I will report on my results!

emeraldkity–I have a friend who sometimes introduces her husband as her “first” husband. They’ve been happily married for about 24 years.

My DH never notices when I get a haircut or new clothes. The upside is, he really doesn’t notice my wrinkles or gray hairs. :)

I introduce my husband as my first husband, and sometimes I say we have enjoyed 28 years of wedded bliss(we have been married 29 years). My husband always looks surprised.

I use the cream Cbreeze linked to in post 484 on the hair that started to show up on my toes and top of my feet about 4 yrs ago. I leave it on longer. I still pluck the chin but should try the cream on my chin.

MdMom and EK4: my older brother (technically a half brother, but not how I think of him) is 81, 25 years older than I am. My nephews range in age from my age to early twenties. Blended families can make for interesting relationships.

Mom60,LOL !! Never thought of using it on feet ! All the hairs on my toes have fallen out (balding?) during the years. I mainly use the cream on peach fuzzes on my face which seem to increase with age.

I can look in a regular, non-magnified mirror and clearly see every tinsy (and not tinsy) wrinkle, every too big pore, every chin and other hair, etc… I’m thinking this is not an advantage of being near-sighted…:(

oh the hair on the feet. I think I have become part monkey. I have made my younger sister promise me that should anything happen to me and I can’t take care of myself that she will be sure to shave the hair on my toes.

Hairs on your toes? Oh gosh, I had better keep an eye out for THAT possible development.

I love this thread.

I’m getting paranoid. I’ve never noticed extra hair on my chin or toes. How much peach fuzz is acceptable? Lol. I mean, we are mammals, after all.

Just checked my toes. Yup, they’re clear.

I’m starting to get the brown age spots on the backs of my hands. Anyone have advice?

I had never realized how much people shrink until I was at a viewing service last weekend with a lot of older people. I am 5’7" and was wearing heels and not only towered over the women but the men as well!

Oh and someone asked my SIL (in her 50’s, pretty and in terrific shape) if she was my FIL’s wife. Uh, no, she is his daughter. Maybe they thought he had married a much younger woman or maybe they just couldn’t see very well.

LasMa, they do have some sort of laser that can make the brown spots become much lighter.

I’ve started to use sun screen not only on my face but on my hands every day.

Sad to learn of Nora Ephron’s death.

^ Yes, I’m sad, too. We need our comedy creators.

All this discussion of facial hair had me examine my face closely today. I don’t seem to be getting any at this point. I’m 53.

Actually, my problem is that my hair feels thinner. Trying not to worry though. Seems like this has happened a few times before over the years and is cyclical.

Thanks, VeryHappy.

I think I’ve seen products like creams advertised for brown spots. I’d like to try easy and cheap before I go to medical and expensive. Has anyone tried those?
