My daughter is looking to get her hair cut soon. Most of the reviews for salons/stylists in Hyde Park are unimpressive to her, but if you have a stylist that’s in HP or in the loop area that you trust, please share here or in a PM. Not interested in a “Super Cuts” type of salon.
Thanks!
When my daughter was at UChicago, she (and pretty much every other woman she knew) got her hair cut somewhere in the Belmont neighborhood near the corresponding Red Line stop. I never knew exactly where, and at this point enough time has passed that it would be unreliable anyway if I did know.
I will offer this, though. There are 6-7,000 women between the ages of 17 and 25 who are full-time students at the University of Chicago. Maybe a few more. Hardly any of them cut their own hair, and not that many get their hair cut in Hyde Park, or there would be a lot more, better choices. However socially challenged your daughter may be, it is not that difficult to approach someone in your house or a class, maybe someone a few years ahead of you or a TA, and say, “Excuse me, hi! Can you recommend a good place to get my hair cut?” That works super well.
My son and his girlfriend always got their hair cut by friends in their house. They would pay in homemade cookies.
You could ask in City Data. We moved away from Chicagoland over 4 years ago and our hair cutter was in the western suburbs.
I have had success at Milo’s Salon on 53rd but my haircut is very simple.
PMed you
My daughter has long, layered, and color treated hair. She is not “socially challenged” and I’m hoping that was a joke. She did ask around , and she did research the reviews, which is why she was unimpressed with the suggestions she received. Some very nice people on here made some great suggestions, and I booked an appointment for her as a surprise when I get into town this weekend.
