@LasMa – Thanks for your support. The march is only the beginning, so no worries if you can’t make it to the one near you. There are so many ways to get involved! Where I live, it’s working already. A representative was seen sneaking out the back door because he didn’t want to answer Obamacare repeal questions from dozens of constituents who showed up in his office. He had his staff say, he’d talk to them, while he slithered out like a coward. It made national news.
First of all, how is this thread not political?
Second, I worry there will be violence on Inauguration Day. Not a solution to anything.
I also worry about violence. That day or the day of the march.
My first thought when I saw that the head of the DC National Guard would be fired was that violence is expected and that they didn’t think the current head would do anything to quell it.
I don’t know what will happen on Inauguration Day, but I expect the Womens Marches to be peaceful. C’mon, it’s us. It’s women in their 50s and 60s. It’s our daughters. We have no interest in violence.
But you can’t control who else will show up.
I hope everyone stays safe. No need for violence.
We were advised to write our emergency contact numbers on our arm in sharpie. Probably unnecessary, but a good precaution – whether a medical emergency or someone to post bail! Not planning to need either.
The one attached to my wheelchair says “Being disabled isn’t a choice. Discrimination is.” I’m going to put one on the other side too but I haven’t quite figured out what it’ll say.
The other sign I’m holding is not CC appropriate
Thanks @romanigypsyeyes
The possibility of violence has crossed my mind. Sad to say that is possible in any large gathering of people these days, no matter what the gathering is for. I am willing to take a chance as this is very important to me.
I’m very, very worried about violence for you guys in DC and the other very large marches.
Here, the Lansing march hasn’t been well-publicized so I’m hoping the low profile will bode well for us.
Me, too, fallgirl.
@WhereIsMyKindle, we talked about focusing on strength in numbers. Some of our signs say: NOPE, Stronger Together, GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUNdamental rights!, INDIVISIBLE, GOPStoppers, Ladies 4 Justice, We Are Here, We Are Watching You, We Are Ready to Fight,
Thanks @lilmom D and I are trying to decide what to write.
Here’s a list of places offering places to warm up/get refreshments/use the restroom:
I don’t think there will be any violence on 1/21. 1/20, I’m not so sure since it’s been reported that there are groups actively trying to disrupt. Which I think is a very bad idea. That’s the one the Bikers 4 Trump are attending, not the Women’s March. But also, I think it could get complicated with all of the 1/20 and 1/21 supporters staying at the same hotels and eating at the same restaurants that weekend!
@lilmom I like the “NOPE” one. Succinct and spot-on.
My daughter has a shirt that reads: EMPOWERED WOMEN EMPOWER WOMEN. That could make a good sign. Another one reads: ACCEPT EXISTENCE OR EXPECT RESISTANCE.
She has many opinions on things.
I like NOPE. I think I’ll make a sign that says NOPE.
@petramc I like your daughter
