Wondering If There's A Chance

<p>I don’t want to be one of those nervous and slightly obnoxious seniors who asks the chance question, but I might just have to be.</p>

<p>My scores -
SAT - 2210 (790 M, 700 R, 720 W)
SUBJECT TESTS - took italian and math 2, haven’t received scores, but almost positive they are high 700’s if not 800’s.
AP’s - physics b- 4, english lit and comp -4. Will take Calc BC, Stats, and english lang and comp at end of year.</p>

<p>GPA - This one is kind of messed up. My old school did a 4.0 school, with a max grade of an A, and there I had an unweighted 3.75-3.8ish. When I transferred schools, they gave me 93’s for A’s, and 91’s for A-'s, giving me a horrid 91.5 ballpark figure. It is now around a 92.5, due to GPA’s between junior and senior ranging from 93’s to 96’s (UW).</p>

<p>Course rigor - All honors and AP’s except in history classes, mostly due to missed opportunity because of the difference in courses offered in the schools I transferred between. Will be taking Syracuse Unviersity economics this year (second sem.)</p>

<p>Extracurriculars-
Novice and Varsity Crew (rowing) 11th and 12th grade
Varsity Tennis - 9th and 10th
Theatre -(9,10,11) Much Ado About Nothing, BRIEFS (short plays), Urinetown, Crazy For You
Forensic Debate-11th grade, no longer a club offered at my school
Work at a preschool- Since this summer, 8-12 hrs a week</p>

<p>Hooks - Wrote an essay I’m really proud of, bilingual, knew zero English at age 8, managed to move from Italy and adapt to American lifestyle pretty quickly. Go back to Italy every summer.</p>

<p>I’m looking at a Mathematics / Economics major.</p>

<p>Not that I have much authority to speak on this, as a mere applicant myself–but I think it’ll depend on your essay. Your SAT is pretty good, and my regional counselor told me that Subject Test scores are not used to determine admission, so it doesn’t matter too much how well you do.</p>

<p>Your GPA isn’t very high, which may or may not be a problem; the U of C, as a very academic school, will place tremendous weight on it, but a great essay and your obviously very good SAT scores can make up for it, I would think. Also, your ECs aren’t out of this world, but again, a great essay can probably make up for that.</p>

<p>If you haven’t interviewed, do so. They like visits, nibbles of interest, all of that helps to put you in.</p>
