Wondering whether I should apply early

The thing is…

I am auditioning for the All Northwest Honors Orchestra this year (on the viola) and I will find out whether I get in or not around December, which leaves me time to put it on my application should I do regular admission. This could certainly help my chances at admission (granted, I have already done All-State orchestra, and am the first chair of my local youth symphony, so I don’t know how much it would help me, since my musical credentials are quite good already)

Does applying earlier really increase your chances at admission? If so, do you think it would be more advantageous for me to have All-Northwest Orchestra on my application, or for me to do early action?

Thanks :)

hey, i think it will help your app. but it really depends on what your previous awards were like. early does not increase chances as the applicant pool is much stronger. just go with what you want.

So is the relatively higher admissions rate in Early Action purely a correlational thing?

The early admissions applicants for yale are extremely competitive and represent some of the best applicants that will apply that year. So naturally there will be more people accepted and the smaller amount that apply create a higher acceptance rate. However, what people mean by SCEA has no advantage is that only the applicants that the adcoms are SURE will get accepted are accepted. The rest are deferred until RD to compare to the competitiveness of the other applicants.
