Wood-Ridge New Jersey. Nice place to live?

In our ongoing search for a town to downsize, someone recently mentioned Ridge-Wood New Jersey. I was told that they are easily accessible to NYC and have a nice “downtown” area with shops and restaurants.

Anyone know anything about this town? Thanks!

I think you must mean Ridgewood rather than Woodridge. (Both are in NJ) Ridgewood is a very nice town and is a “hot” neighborhood for restaurants. It’s NOT an inexpensive place to live. It is a suburban commute to NYC.

Both are in Bergen County. Woodridge is more bluecollar while ridgewood is NYC professional.

We are looking for a more down to earth town feel. Someone recently told me they moved to Wood-Ridge because she “didn’t want to live in a neighborhood where first graders were asking for coach purses,” and loves living in Wood-Ridge where she says people are friendly and “real, not snobs.”

I found her comments fascinating and very telling!

As a NJ resident, I can say that the worst part of living in NJ is the very high property taxes that we pay. We top the nation in this area. Oh yippee. And then there’s what we pay in auto insurance. We about top the charts on that also.

Unless you have kids and have to consider the public school system, I’d look in PA just because the cost of living is much less there.

That said, I’ve been in north central NJ for most of my life and two of my children have bought homes here, so I think we are here for the long haul.

Do you have the option of staying in the town for a few days to get a feel for what it’s like? See how close you are to things (grocery shopping, mall shopping, library, movie theaters). Also, note how crowded the roads are - esp during rush hour. Do you like the kind of houses in this town? Are they packed in like sardines or are they on one acre lots? And what kind of housing do you want?

Maybe the OP means Woodbridge?

I lived in Woodbridge for over 35 years the downtown does not have shops. She has to mean Ridgewood.

Or Woodcliff Lakes?

Or Ringwood?

Or Wantage? Ridgefield? Westwood? Woolwich? Woodbury?Then again, there is a Wood-Ridge <a href=“Living In Wood-Ridge, NJ”>http://www.areavibes.com/wood-ridge-nj/livability/

OP, look into Morris County towns too. I believe property taxes are lower than Bergen and Essex Counties. A good resource of local town info is trulia dot com.

I think she means what she is saying. All of the other towns being mentioned are much more expensive.

Woodridge is a nice town in Bergen County. Perfectly nice town, but as was said above, nothing so spectacular to recommend it that it would be worth the taxes.
