Work abroad/ post graduate opportunities

I need to tap into the wealth of the parent cafe. Youngest daughter wants to spend some time abroad after graduate school, preferably doing something relating to her degree- Social Work. We are reaching out to the service organizations, Peace Corp etc, to the Student organizations - Bunac and to the University for programs. Still its confusing at best and terrifying at worse.

Anybody here have experience with the concept? I’d love to hear from others who have gone and done before us…

OF COURSE the kid (a wonderful young woman) doesnt want to just get a job and scare her mother in the normal way… :)

You might check out [Teach Abroad at WorldTeach, teaching volunteer opportunities worldwide - WorldTeach](http://www.worldteach.org). This is mostly teaching English, not social work, but it seems like a serious and well-organized outfit. The programs are about a year long. My daughter is in Ecuador with them now. I can’t give you a final review, because she just finished the orientation month and started her job yesterday, but mostly all good so far. You do have to pay for it, but then a stipend is paid back. I think the net cost ended up about $4000 for the year, transportation and insurance included.

My D is currently teaching English in South Korea. It is a paid position with housing furnished (private, one-room apartment). She has to pay for her food, cell phone, maybe electric bill, and part of health insurance premium. It cost her nothing to apply–they even pay her airfare over and back. Well, she did have to pay for her passport, background check, transcripts, etc. All that was required was a college degree in any major (hers is music performance) and no teaching experience required. She is nearly four months into a one-year contract and she loves it. I think she went through a website called Footprints. I’m not positive so you would have to google it. It’s a little scary for me, though, with N Korea talking trash right now.

Have her look at USAID.GOV.

Princeton in Asia (PIA) has programs for recent college grads, either teaching English in Asia or working for an NGO.
