<p>Chicago has a reputation for being a place with alot of “work.” However, is it alot of assignments, papers, and general busywork, or is it more alot of reading, studying, and tests? The former would be torture for me–the latter would be much better.</p>
<p>From the people I know that go there, its alot of reading and papers. No much “busywork”.</p>
<p>I always found a tradeoff–I would do better on papers and assignments, yet they’d require more work than studying (since some papers I wrote were 3500-4000 words on topics like “Plato and Valentinian Gnosticism”), and thus would kill me.</p>
<p>I’d much rather write a paper than take a test any day. I can control how much time I put into the paper and I’m sure that I can do well on anything if I really work hard enough. I don’t get that same control on tests; instead the prof has all the control. :/</p>
<p>Both are a matter of effort. Both are a means to an end.</p>
<p>I’d also rather take a test, but in english classes, tests are not really as useful as papers.</p>
<p>Since we will all have a lot of papers in front of us, any good advice to actually getting into writing the papers. I’m approaching the end of IB HL english and I have definately tried, but I can’t really start writing until I am down to the wire. Until that point, distractions rule my world (like posting here…right now…because I should be writing a paper).</p>
<p>What do you guys do to get into the flow of a paper?</p>
