My husband got a one time work comp settlement six figures after 9 yrs and was declared permanently disabled and is currently receiving disability payments from social security. Settlement received last year 2018 and my daughter will start college fall 2020.
You can request a special circumstances review from the financial aid office after you file your FAFSA for 2020-2021. They may remove the one-time payment from the AGI, but they may not - every school has its own policies for that type of professional judgment request.
