I recently got hired as a technician at Jiffy Lube, but I’m beginning to have my doubts. My mom told me that it’s not a respected job, even as a summer job. Also, I’m a girl, and a small one at that, so I might just look ridiculous in such a male-dominated type of work. I’m also applying to Old Navy, so if I get that I might quit the Jiffy Lube thing. My question is two-fold: Is a stint at Jiffy Lube only for high-school dropouts, or is it fine as a summer job? ALSO, if I wanted to quit, what would be the most decent way of doing so, if there is a polite way at all?

so let me think about this. Fewer girls at Jiffy Lube but you’d rather follow the crowd to Old Navy…that makes for good conversation or essay. Is the pay equal? Distance to work? You gotta say that this is a summer job, not a career. Which one do you find more interesting???

oh he is so right. work at jiffy lube unless old navy pays more.

i agree with hazmat and bobbobbob. definitely work at jiffy lube, unless you’ll make more at old navy. at least you’ll be doing something different, not just working at the mall like everyone else seems to do.

I use Jiffy Lube regularly and I have been satisfied with the competence and professionalism of the staff that I have met there. I respect the people I’ve met who work there.

Since you have gone this far, why not try out the job, and then make your own decision? At the very least, you’ll learn about cars, and IMO you will be grateful in the future for that knowledge. I think you’ll learn a lot about yourself, too.

More generally, IMO it is good to try out your own ideas in a safe manner, rather than let your parents talk you out of them.

Think of the people you’ll see at Jiffy. How many interesting folks are there at Old Navy? Mall mommies with their mall babies and the girls who shop. Just take the Jiffy Job and be happy. I think you’ll have an adventure. Now as for your mom’s friends who are then gonna come to your JIffy just to see you? Priceless. Go for it.

Only work at Old Navy if it pays more.

i second everyone’s notions.

It’s just a summer job.

What’s wrong with Jiffy Lube? It’s all about the money…obviously choose whichever pays more unless you highly value the Old Navy employee discount or something…
Plus, you’ll probably meet more guys @ Jiffy Lube…

no trivial summer job looks any better than any other one. working at Old Navy doesnt exactly mean you’ve hit it big either.

Every guy that works at Old Navy is dressed rather … uhh, gayly, for the lack of a better word.
