OK, so over the last few weeks I have as a prompt transfer student, been completing transfer applications and essays. Also, I have filed for financial aid, and had to ask for certain fee waivers. A question popped into my mind…

How do you guys feel after your first exchange with some colleges?

I’ll be it I am applying to some heavy names, but a few are quite approachable and eager to help i.e. Yale and U of C respond within hours and always include, a reference name, a personalized email, answer to question, additional information, positive undertones, etc…

a few other schools I feel automatically shrugged off… my state school has not even sent a confirmation, and 2 unnamed private schools sent responses so cold and forward, not professional at all, and you would not have ever known which school they were from if it wasn’t for the address.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Has it changed your feelings about your applications?

One school that I applied and was accepted to, that was actually my first choice, when I was accepted I was given the name of an academic advisor. I sent her an email asking some questions about planning my classes and her response was so short (one sentence) and curt that it totally put me off.

The school I ended up going to (I imagine you can figure out where) was very responsive and helpful. I felt like I had access to a lot of support from the school throughout the entire process, which made it easy to choose them.

When I was deciding where to apply I had to call all the schools and make sure they would accept my high school diploma (a proficiency diploma from California). There were a few schools where I felt like the response was really demeaning, and one in particular that came off as simply rude. The irony is, the school that was rude to me was a school I would never have even considered if they hadn’t have sent me an application and gazillion emails requesting that I apply. I didn’t apply there.

Yes, I think I understand… The school I was most putoff by actually is a California school… which by the way my app clearly states I have legacy status LOL… funny thing is I prefer the school which I believe you chose, and I have since the beginning.
