Work on-campus in United States for Internation Students (Online Job)

I couldn’t figure this out in which category to post, so I am posting here.

As I received the information from United States Education Foundation, international students are allowed to work only on-campus with maximum of 20 hours per week. and off-campus work is illegal.
This means can’t i work and earn online from campus with online jobs like Elance.com and others…is working online illegal…i am just confused…

On campus means school-related, and generally I think requires the school (or some supporting service) to be the employer. Online work from campus doesn’t qualify.

I presume you are getting a Student Visa. The following describes what you have said:

For online jobs, I would consider where the employer is, not where you are. If the employer is outside the USA, then I don’t think you would be violating your Visa to work with them. You could have done it from your home country.

Schools usually have lots of food service jobs, and some food service jobs gives you a meal for the shift. You are not likely to work more than 20 hours and go to school full time.
