Work Situation?

Now, I’ve been working at Giant Eagle, a north eastern grocery store chain. I started working in the summer of 2015, and I haven’t looked back since.

My current position is a lot attendant. It’s not a hard job, but it can get busy at times. I did ask them to crosstrain at times, but unfortunately, timing and being in college affected their overall decision. One of my former bosses was going to crosstrain me, but once he left, a new one replaced him. She obviously never knew about it until I told her, but she never went through with it. I even wrote my name on a cross-training sheet during a past summer, but they still didn’t even consider me yet.

I understand that I should be blessed to have a job that pays well: ($9.10 after starting at $8.35 when I first joined) But, my patience has been wearing thin ever since I started to wonder why they didn’t crosstrain me yet, which might’ve been last year or so.

I do like my job and the fitness benefits of it, but I’d like to learn other positions in the store so I can get more experience instead of just doing one thing. Also, they may or may not get annoyed if I keep asking them to crosstrain me.

So, should I just suck it up? Ask them again? Or find a new job?

However, I did send in an application to my local rec center, so we’ll see what happens. I actually would like to work their because my college major revolves around Physical Activity and Fitness, and this would help me out when they see that on my resume.

Put your request in writing and get it to the store manager.

Even though that other people on various forums (outside of CC) told me that I should just live on my own, I’ll still have to deal with:

Bills & Expenses!

Water, Electric, Phone, Car, Gas, Food, etc. It adds up every month along with the rent, which is why my parents told me that living on your own is expensive, unless if you have a good job that pays well. For the roommate situation, it’s still a possibility for me, but I’m not ready to leave home just yet: Whenever I’m on break for college, my family is relieved everytime I come home because then I’ll be available to help them out. I won’t get into any personal details about my life, but let’s just say that they’ll miss my help if I ever decide to live on own right now. I also forgot to mention college tuition debt as well.

Overall, I’m not going to live in a cheap, crappy apartment, I want something that’s nice, but cheap as well.

What does living on your own have to do with cross training at a summer job?

@austinmshauri I’ve been told that I can live with some roommates because I make $9.10 an hour. Now, I work part-time and I’m still in college, which means:

I need a good paying job working between 35-40 hrs. a week (plus overtime) at $20 or more an hour after I graduate college, even though that it’s not guaranteed to happen. However, making anything less than $15 an hour would be a struggle for most people, unless if they lived in their car/van, an RV, a mobile camper, with some roommates, etc. But, it all depends on the situation.
